Musical Chairs: 09.08.06

Lots of job changes to report today. We’ve reviewed them, so you don’t have to. Here are the highlights:
In House Counsel:
* AIG, the troubled insurance giant, has named Anastasia Kelly as its general counsel and senior regulatory and compliance officer. Kelly is no stranger to choppy waters, having previously served as GC of MCI/WorldCom, Sears Roebuck, and Fannie Mae. Before her series of in-house positions, Stasia Kelly was a partner at Wilmer Cutler.
Kelly left MCI/WorldCom after its merger with Verizon. Anyone have dirt on her departures from Sears (some hints here) and Fannie Mae?
Lateral Moves:
* Prominent litigator Dennis Orr, along with Thomas Mueller, Grant Esposito, and Stefan Engelhardt, to Morrison & Foerster (NY), from Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw (NY). MoFo, which started off as a San Francisco firm, is making a major effort to build up its New York office. (Firm chair Keith Wetmore relocated from S.F. to New York earlier this year.)
* Tax lawyer Romina Weiss, to Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, from Troutman Sanders (NY).
* Finance lawyer Robert Gruendel, to DLA Piper, from Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle.
* Mass torts/products liability lawyer Kathleen O’Connor, to Dechert, from Merck, where she was assistant counsel working on Vioxx litigation (ugh).
* International corporate lawyer Johannes Gabel, to Fulbright & Jaworski, from Orrick.
