Lady and Ted’s Excellent Adventure: Wedding Photos That Rock

Ted Olson wedding 1
“Okay, Judge Bork. Smile and say ‘The Original Understanding’!!!”

(Also: Is that Harvard Law prof Laurence Tribe standing behind Robert Bork, or just someone who looks a lot like him?)

Earlier this week, we gave you a detailed report about the fabulous nuptials of Ted Olson — the winning lawyer in Bush v. Gore, former Solicitor General, and current Gibson Dunn partner — and his beautiful and brilliant bride, Lady Booth.* The Olson wedding was attended by the crème de la crème of D.C. and conservative legal circles.

Now we have an update to our prior coverage, an ATL exclusive: WEDDING PICTURES!!! And they’re not boring, like the ones your college roommate makes you look at every time you visit her house. Did Justice Sandra Day O’Connor attend your college roommate’s wedding?

Check out the pics — there are just a few of them, it won’t take you long — after the jump.

* “Lady” is her given name, not a title. See here.

Center foreground: Ninth Circuit Judge Diarmuid O’Scannlain and his well-dressed wife, Mrs. Maura O’Scannlain.

Seated to the O’Scannlains’ right: Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, and her husband, John O’Connor (upon information and belief). WOW!!!

(What’s Judge O’Scannlain staring at? Uh, we’re not going there.)

Ted Olson wedding 2
The lovely bride, Lady Booth, being escorted down the aisle. Check out the meticulous beadwork on the bodice of her gorgeous gown.

Ted Olson described Lady Booth to the Washington Post as “a Southern girl” and “just a marvelous person.” Like her husband, she’s also an attorney — specifically, a tax lawyer.

(We’re guessing that the gentleman escorting Lady down the aisle is her father. He looks like a cross between Richard Gere and Ben Stein.)

Ted Olson wedding 3
The black-robe-clad figure is Judge Laurence Silberman, of the D.C. Circuit. Judge Silberman, a longtime friend of Ted Olson — and Olson’s late wife, conservative commentator Barbara Olson — officiated at the wedding.

(We don’t know who the Margaret Thatcher doppelganger in the floral print dress is, but feel free to enlighten us, by email or in the comments.)

The wedding featured more rose petals than were used in the filming of American Beauty and Coming to America — COMBINED.

The happy couple, making their exit. They are honeymooning in Hawaii. ALOHA!!!

You did not point out Justice O'Connor in the picture of Judge O'Scannlain.

Could that wedding be a bit more white?

Lady is pretty.. GO Ted!

Woooo-hoooo! Lady is every bit as stunning as Barbara was. Just goes to show what babes conservative legal scholars can bag.

Rock on, Ted!

And, it seems the guests were able to figure out that Napa chic clothing directive.

Rock on, guests!

And, I think that Margaret Thatcher doppleganger looks suspiciously like Holland Taylor, who played Professor Stromwell in "Legally Blonde." Perhaps Lady is replacing Reece in Legally Blonde 3?

Rock on, Margaret Thatcher/Holland Taylor doppleganger!

What happened to Bob Bork's "crazy prophet" beard? He's not the same without it.

How does Ted keep getting the babes? No way is that Tribe -- he's still a portly pepperpot and couldn't have dropped 10 stone since September. Where on earth did you get the photos Lat? Great scoop -- brownie points if they were obtained illegally.

I don't think that was John O'Connor. Just some guy.

That would be Nina Totenberg in the same row as Bork, third woman back; wearing sunglasses, by the way.

Judges Bork and O'Scannlain show the proper way to interpret an idiotic attire request ("Napa casual"): Ignore it and wear the same damn thing you wear every other day.

GST: Is Bork wearing a gold pocket watch chain? That's hott. I hope this photo starts a huge fashion trend and all the fashionable young Federalists will be sporting one at the Annual Conference this fall...remember kids, blue ties, dark suits and watch chains are IN!

I think we need a caption contest for what in the hell the woman behind him is doing that's causing him to look so decidedly unimpressed.

NBS: "Just goes to show what babes conservative legal scholars can bag."

Maybe the real question at hand is what kind of babes are bagging conservative legal scholars. Don't let the blonde hair fool you. LOL!

I grew up with Lady Lynn Booth in Louisville, Ky. and she was amazingly beautiful and intelligent even then. Grats Lady on a beautiful wedding and blessings on your new life together!!!

Once again, Lat has titillated us with his delicious vocabulary-- albeit, hardly aptly in this case: Although Mary Ellen Bork would not likely quarrel with an analogy in any aspect to the Iron Lady, the term Margaret Thacher "doppelganger" (="virtual double" fyi to the cretins evidently unaware of the colorful term's non-pejorative meaning) is hardly 'fair' to the very lovely Mary Ellen, wife of the esteemed Judge--and unintended style-celebrant on these pages... Yes, Judge Bork is wearing his traditional gold pocket watch and he did dress appropriately (dark suit) for an afternoon wedding the invitation to which made no mention of black-tie and, in fact, was altogether silent as to dress (to correct the record)... (gst, pick a fight on somebody else's blog).

As a member of the brides family, and an invited guest to all events, I can assure everyone the 'Napa Valley Casual' directive is a myth. There never was any such request and/or direction on any invitation. For the record, that is our father (Wayne N. Perkey) walking her down the aisle. It was indeed a beautiful wedding, and a good time was had by all.

2:42 AM: Why do you view a comparison to Margaret Thatcher as unflattering? I've always thought of her as an elegant and attractive woman (and I know others who feel the way I do).

18 Posted by amy | Permalink Friday, November 10, 2006 10:40 AM

Well actually....... the "Napa casual" directive was printed on the invitation to the rehersal dinner.

avatar
19 Posted by guest | Permalink Friday, November 10, 2006 3:47 PM

Well actually....if you had both the invitation (as I do in my hand) and the ability to read, you would see that it does not, in fact, say Napa Casual. This is a trivial issue, but if people feel the need to make condescending remarks about a wedding they have no connection to, they should at least have correct information!

3:47 PM: I don't think the write-up was "condescending" toward the wedding. It was actually adoring and celebratory. The condescension was directed at guests who couldn't figure out how to implement the (alleged) Napa casualness.

If referring to the non-existant request as idiotic is not condescending, I don't know what is. The fact is, there was no such request. The write up was well done, with the exception of this incorrect statement, and a few missing details.

For the record, the statement you quote is from a commenter / fellow reader this blog (not the blog itself - there is a difference).

From the initial blog report (http://www.abovethelaw.com/2006/10/the_eyes_of_the_law_ted_olsons.php)

"Despite the tremendous collective brainpower of these august guests, we hear that several of them were left scratching their impressive craniums by one wedding detail: the request on the wedding invite for "Napa Casual" attire"

For a blog read by mostly attorneys, you all don't bother to check your facts much before you post. I said the initial write up made a mistake, because it did. Had you bothered to read the write up first, instead of assuming I am an idiot, you might have avoided making yourself look foolish.

Precisely. (Simply that Mary Ellen Bork is more beautiful.)

As an old friend and contemporary of Lady, who has lost touch and stayed in Louisville to raise a family, I know the genius Mr. Olson is gaining as his bride, and I wish them both the most happiness that life can bring.

Mr. Olson, I somewhat know how you feel, having recently lost my 16 yr old daughter, and I hope Lady continues to ease your grief, and makes you the happiest man you can be. Congrats, love and prayers, from Bonnie

Barbara isn't in heaven. Perhaps, Bluebeard Olson's previous two wives are in heaven. Bluebeard himself won't be going to heaven either. Don't know about the fourth wife.
