Legal Eagle Wedding Watch: October 8, 2006

We’re almost caught up here at Legal Eagle Wedding Watch. Today we discuss and score couples featured in the New York Times weddings page of October 8, 2006.
Again, a bit of a slow weekend for weddings involving lawyers. Here are the three couples under review:

1. Amanda Biles, Lee Reeves II

2. Katherine Dowling, Marc Axelbaum

3. Emily Weisenbach, Michael Burke

1. Amanda Biles, Lee Reeves II
Résumé score: 9.1. Excellent creds. Amanda’s University of Virginia through and through — undergrad, master’s in history, and law. After clerking for two federal judges, John Heyburn II (W.D. Ky.) and Mary Beck Briscoe (10th Cir.), she joined Latham & Watkins’s D.C. office. Lee also went to UVA for college, followed by Stanford Law. He’s also doing double clerkships He previously clerked for T.S. Ellis III (E.D. Va.) and is now clerking for the recently appointed Michael Chagares (3d Cir.).
Family score: 9.0. Her father is a partner at Arnold & Porter — very nice. Her mother works as an executive assistant at Allianz. His father is a partner in Sirote & Permutt, a law firm in Birmingham, and his mother is also a lawyer there. That’s a lot of lawyers. Bet the Thanksgiving dinner conversations sound like bar review classes…
Balance score: 9.1. A well-balanced couple. Same college, strong law schools, two federal judicial clerkships apiece.
Beauty score: 8.3.
Overall score: 8.88.
Additional comments: This couple is uber-WASPy — just reread the first paragraph of their announcement.
2. Katherine Dowling, Marc Axelbaum
Résumé score: 9.1. She’s UVA and Harvard Law, now working as an AUSA in San Francisco (Northern District of California) — very prestigious, especially given the desirability of that district. He’s Cornell (cum laude) and Columbia Law, now working as a senior associate at Pillsbury Winthrop. And props to him for surviving a clerkship with Judge Marsha Berzon (9th Cir.) She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.
Family score: 9.1. Very impressive, especially the dads. Her father is the chairman of SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, an investment bank in Atlanta. Her mother retired as a VP at MONY Financial Services in New York. His father is a radiologist, and his mother is a disability consultant to social service organizations.
Beauty score: 9.0. Marc’s an athletically attractive guy, perfectly good-looking — but Katherine is a stunner. She’s a blonde beauty reminiscent of Mira Sorvino.
Balance score: 8.8. She may have a slight edge over him; but on the whole, they’re well-balanced and complementary. On the job front, they’ve struck a nice balance between private and public sector employment (i.e., income and prestige, respectively).
Overall score: 8.93.
Additional comments: She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named officiated at the wedding. She opened the ceremony with a Wiccan chant.
3. Emily Weisenbach, Michael Burke
Résumé score: 8.6. Michael’s the lawyer in this couple. He’s UNC (college and law), now at Cravath. She’s a graduate of Hartwick College and a current master’s student (social work) at Columbia. The prestige of Cravath holds up their score.
Family score: 8.4. These parents should be commended for their altruism and commitment to public service. Three out of four work in the non-profit or educational worlds. Her father is the senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Katonah, NY (Westchester — not far from Hillary). Her mother is a senior vice president at Lighthouse International, a nonprofit for the visually impaired. His mother is a preschool teacher, and his father is the director of technical services for a manufacturers’ association in Reserach Triangle Park, NC>
Balance score: 8.5. On paper, he’s considerably more high-powered than she is. (No photo, so we don’t know how they look.)
Overall score: 8.50.
THIS WEEK’S WINNING COUPLE: Katherine Dowling and Marc Axelbaum. The happy couple met on a group bicycle ride across the Golden Gate bridge — and now they speed past their competitors, coasting to an easy victory. Congratulations!
