Please Help Us Pick Our Next Hotties Contest

Daniel Radcliffe Daniel Radcliffe Harry Potter Above the Law.JPGAs we’ve learned from emails, comments, and our tracking software, many of you are new to Above the Law. Welcome!

Here at ATL, we have a long and distinguished tradition of “hotties contests.” We’ve previously held contests for America’s hottest ERISA lawyers, law school deans, and 3L students at NYU Law. They were all huge hits within their respective communities.

Why do we hold hotties contests? Well, for better or worse, the legal profession is ruled by brains. Focusing on beauty provides a welcome respite from the credentials obsession that infects the law (and that we, of all people, are very guilty of — especially with respect to Supreme Court clerks).

As the old saying goes, “Looks aren’t everything.” But neither are brains. Lawyers need to be reminded that there are things that matter in life besides where you went to law school or which judge you clerked for. E.g., How good do you look shirtless?

(In the case of Harry Potter, aka actor Daniel Radcliffe (at right — photo via Drudge), the answer is: Pretty damn good.)

Hence our ATL hotties competitions. Our last beauty contest took place a long time ago; it’s time for a new one.

We’ve received a number of different suggestions. We’ve narrowed the list down to two choices, which we will now poll you on:

I find this picture disturbing. Although it is less disturbing than the one of him & the horse.

You know, the photo of a naked 17-year-old Harry Potter actor just doesn't do it for me. Thanks but no thanks, Lat.

Allow me this: If you end up choosing hottest project finance attorney, the input of certain partner at a certain very large firm, should be actively solicited. Said someone is well known to have attempted to judge this contest independently, in the manner of Helen Keller, much tactile feeling.

Come on. This has got to be Hottest Project Finance lawyers. Only then can we have a full spread on Hal's Gals from Skadden's NY Project Finance practice.

You have got to use this, results of the poll be damned.

A better Hotties contest would be current Supreme Court clerks or even clerks at the various appeals court circuits. Anything but librarians, for the love of god...

We realize this photograph has set off some of your web filters. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We are working on removing it (but, of course, we're having perfectly timed computer problems right now)...

a clerk winner for each circuit, and then a final competition placing each circuit winner against one another?

what about hottest secretaries or hottest recruiting coordinators? i realize they're not lawyers, but i'd like to see what kind of eye candy the other firms have to ogle every day.

do you think it was the actual picture or the tag that set off the web filters?

avatar
16 Posted by guest | Permalink Tuesday, January 30, 2007 4:45 PM

the name of the picture is what set off the web filters - filters don't scan the content of photos

Hmm... I hope it's not the tag. If it's the tag that did it, then that strikes me as lame.

False positives would include numerous cases on FindLaw and other legal websites. E.g., criminal prosecutions for child pornography ("nude pictures of children"), free speech cases involving nude dancing, etc.

I just want to say that New York Law School has the most attractive students i have ever seen...

I mean, if we actually want attractive people (well, women), I think it should obviously be one of these two categories: (1) hottest legal recruiters; or (2) hottest legal secretaries.

Come on Lat!

clerks get enough knee-pad action here -- plus, very rarely does the winner ... win.
let's go with the librarians -- a defined talent pool with hotties who are actually related to the practice of law. plus, they probably know more than the clerks anyway (I said it!).

also, hellyeah 5L!
