Breaking: Something Is Up With Charney v. Sullivan & Cromwell

drudge siren.gifWhat is going on in Charney v. Sullivan & Cromwell? Here are some facts worth noting:

1. Aaron Charney’s bio has been removed from the Sullivan & Cromwell website (even though it remained there for quite some time after his lawsuit was filed). He is no longer listed on the site as an S&C attorney.

2. Aaron Charney has removed the Complaint from his website, www.aaroncharney.com.

Update: That was according to a commenter. But it seems to be back up (assuming if it was ever gone in the first place). See here (PDF).

3. Zach Fasman, the Paul Hastings partner handling the matter for S&C, has not returned our emails or calls.

4. Plaintiff Aaron Charney, who is usually an INSTANT emailer, has not responded to an email we sent him LAST NIGHT.

5. We just got off the phone with Aaron Charney. In the past, he has been very cordial and chatty with us. But today he DECLINED TO COMMENT.

And we could tell, from the sound of his voice on the line, that something is DEFINITELY going on. He was very, very nervous.

We pressed him a bit — “Can’t you tell us ANYTHING?” — but he kept on repeating that he could not comment. He was quite emphatic: “I really, really can’t comment right now.”

WHAT IS GOING ON???

DEVELOPING… DEVELOPING…

Sounds like part of the ongoing settlement negotiations is "you can't spur any more media coverage or enflame the story any more".

Um, the complaint still comes up for me (www.aaroncharney.com/complaint.pdf).

If you go directly the pdf, you can still see the complaint, but if you go to www.aaroncharney.com, you get "This Web site is coming soon." Or at least that's what I get.

Can't anyone run a search on the docket number on like PACER or something and see if a settlement has been entered or the case has been dismissed with prejudice?

Nice touch with the siren icon, Lat. Has a Red Light District feel to it.

Does this mean that Gallion & Spielvogel now is even more highly pedigreed?

#7: Just got off the phone with Ted Rogers, the employment litigator monitoring the matter for S&C in house. He also declined to comment. And it was clear from the sound of his voice that something is definitely afooot.

(We'd mention this on the main page, as either a separate post or an update to our earlier post. But of course are servers are failing us, as they always do at the most critical moments.)

Will we ever find out how much he got?

David: please tell Aaron that you would like the exclusive on the settlement negotiations!

Charney: "no comment" = cha-ching.

13 Posted by David Lat | Permalink Friday, February 2, 2007 3:51 PM

It's the Drudge Report-style siren, reserved for the most juicy news!

3:48 PM: Trust me, I practically BEGGED Aaron for the exclusive... It's a story that I would definitely "bend over" backwards for -- and then some!!!

May be Charney is nervous because he is about to become really well-off.

wow, that's a little bit TMI, Lat...

David, when are you going to update your server space? You have a growing readership who wants to see updates constantly!

avatar
17 Posted by guest | Permalink Friday, February 2, 2007 3:54 PM

Lat: there is a delay as to when "new" comments are registered.

Charney may not be the only person to lose his job... John Seheich of LeGaL has just QUIT over his ill-advised CHARNEY comments: http://www.le-gal.org/site/

So if this is to be made into Philadelphia II, who should play who?

Most importantly, who should play the "barristers" ?

Please address technology- and server-related complaints to "Dead Horse Media" rather than "David" or "Lat."

Trust us: the tech problems bother us ten times more than they bother you. They frustrate our ability to do our job. It sucks when a big story is breaking -- like now.

But tech problems are in control of the business and tech folks around here, not the editorial side (that's us). In fact, we aren't even in the same city as our servers. (We're in DC, they're in NY.)

Ummm, get with the program, 3:55. Lat posted that this morning.

3:52 PM: Bend over backwards metaphorically speaking, of course. Get your mind out of the gutter!

Lat, I just calls them like I sees them...

Oh please. Lat is such a bottom. Like all Gaysians. Well, most anyway.

Hahahahhaahahahahahaha

Can you replay the part of the interview with the Report on Business where he calls himself courageous? Please? Please?

I doubt very much that he will get all that much money.

Someone please explain to me:

how does Barrister as in Gallion & Spielvogel differ from barista at the local Starbucks?

4:13---I'm sure there are all sorts of physically possible replies to this that I don't want to here, BUT, at first blush, isn't saying that "most Gaysians" are bottoms kinda like saying that in a certain town most students are above-average?
