Canadians Really ARE Funnier Than Americans

According to the recent lawsuit filed by Aaron Charney, Sullivan & Cromwell thinks that Canadians are “irrelevant.”

We have a different view of our neighbors to the north. We think Canucks are horny. And pretty damn funny.

This music video, Promiscuous Firm, is from the 2007 University of Alberta Law Show. And it’s far more entertaining — and well-produced — than any video we’ve seen from a U.S. law school’s annual show or roast.

(Yes, even the Tim Wu video.)

Here’s the clip. It’s great from about 1:30 onwards (or 3:00 if you’re watching “backwards”):

Best double entendre, from the attractive female hiring partner (around the 2:20 mark):

I’m a big firm, I can handle myself
But if I have an opening, I may need your help.

Indeed.

That's fantastic! Props to Univ. of Alberta Law School. And I agree Lat, every Canadian I've known (male & female) is a horn dog. Must be the weather.

That was painful to watch. The lead hiring partner wasn't bad though.

Oh, crap, will that get you in trouble with feminist law profs Lat?

But isn't it the MEN who are being objectified here - turned into human benches for the women, spanked on their hindquarters, etc.?

I've never been prouder to be a Canadian. Wait, let me pull out my BigLaw paycheck...

...That's better. USA!

Good humor, mediocre dancing -- yep, it's Canadian. Though I wouldn't judge it against a cellphone video of a live performance.

I got news for you Candian in NY - you haven't seen your colleagues paychecks in Toronto and Calgary in a while. You may find out that they are not that far off.

5:08, are you saying Bennett Jones is paying class of 2002 US$230,000? I have my doubts...

The lead "partner" was hot, but the mixing sucked ass. I couldn't hear whether the lyrics were funny or not.

5:47, I imagine part of the reason you couldn't decipher the lyrics was that in some instances they were talking about an interview/employment process that doesn't exist in the US. Articling, matching, etc.

HEY LAT! I would have thought you would have found the more relevant video from Univ. of Alberta law school - BROKEBACK MOOTING!!

This is soooo relevant to the Charney case!

Thanks for the kind words and the exposure. If we had known how much this was going to get passed around, we may have spent more time filming and editing to make it look a little nicer!

Excellent work - well scripted, performed and shot. :D

I did the videos for a law revue in Australia - they're all on YouTube...

I recommend Harry Potter's Scar, March of the Engineers, Snakes on a Plaintiff, Intimate Injunctions and The Westpac ATM.

I love that the same jokes about the legal profession just seem to transcend borders. :)

Keep up the great work!

Money line: "Roses are red, resumes are blue. This interview is dead, but you're still kind of cute."
