What Is the Times Trying To Tell Us?
From the New York Times home page, as of 11:30 PM on Wednesday:

Is this, like, a racial slur or something? Granted, it’s a buffalo-buffalo, not a water buffalo; but still…
The NYT subsequently fixed this photo screw-up (but not before an enterprising ATL reader took a screenshot). The Timesfolk replaced the buffalo-and-snowmobiles photo with a sinister-looking Kyle Sampson, accompanying Alberto Gonzales on an earlier visit to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Sampson’s testimony begins at 10 AM today. We’re looking forward to it!

here's the meat of Sampson's testimony: http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,660207148,00.html
pardon my ignorance, but can anyone explain the allegedly implicit racial slur?
I think the post's "racial slur" reference is sarcastic. But if you're not familiar with the whole "water buffalo" controversy, click on the link. Or go here:

Here is the actual testimony:

That's a bison, not a buffalo, or even a "buffalo-buffalo." We don't have buffalo in the U.S.

Bison is the American Buffalo - same thing. You go to Yellowstone and you see a bison - you're also seeing a buffalo. It's not incorrect - but it also isn't uber correct.
Didn't know scientists read these pages. Good for you Lat, you're brining in a wider audience!
We sure do have Buffalo in the U.S. - it's in upstate NY and they have a football team and great wings!
Bringing to mind my favorite complete sentence: "Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo."

random and useless: That's is honestly the best thing I've learned all week. I never heard it before but will certainly find a way to use it in the future. Lest ATL readers be confused, however, you did miss one Buffalo -- according to Wikipedia, it's "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo." Naturally.
David Lat is the one who turned it into a racial slur. What a stupid thing to write. "Dude... is this like a racial slur or something?" Tool.
