Breaking: Jesus Wasn’t the Only One Who Was Sacrificed Today

Monica Goodling 5a Monica M Goodling Monica Gooding Alberto Gonzales Above the Law blog.JPGIt’s Good Friday — the Friday before a big holiday weekend. And we all know what that means: a high-profile resignation, timed in an attempt to avoid the news cycle.

Today we bid a fond farewell to the fabulous Monica M. Goodling. As de to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, Monica Goodling helped coordinate the controversial firings of eight United States attorneys. When called upon to testify about the matter before Congress, she invoked the Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.

Oh, Monica — you will be missed. Long after you disappear from the newspaper headlines, you will live on in our hearts. We will always carry a torch for you.

Like so many great blonde icons — Marilyn Monroe, Lady Diana Spencer, Anna Nicole Smith — you left us before your time. So it is fitting and proper that we quote from these lyrics, as we mark your passing from the halls of justice:

Marilyn Monroe Norma Jean Above the Law Blog.jpgAnd it seems to me, you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

Eternal rest grant unto the Justice Department career of Monica Goodling, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon it. May it rest in peace. May her DOJ career, and the careers of all the faithful departed, rest in peace. Amen.

The title of this post is very Stephen Colbert.

6:14, don't say that. you're going to get all of Lat's Federalist Society invitations revoked.

I wonder if she'll be immunized and testify. Then we'll get to see her again.

I see a faint Monica - Marilyn resemblance.

Thanks, 7:02. Minnesota U.S. Attorney Rachel Paulose is described as "best buds" with Monica Goodling!!!

Should we really be surprised that Rachel Paulose is "best buds" with Monica Goodling?

"[A]fter just months on the job, [Paulose] has earned a reputation for quoting Bible verses and dressing down underlings."

Loyola 2L, how good is your knowledge of Holy Scripture? That seems to be the main job qualification at the DOJ these days.

Good riddance, frankly.

Lat, we need a poll (like the one you did for Aaron Charney): What should Monica Goodling do next?

I think she should join the law faculty at Regent. I'm sure that they will still be thrilled to have her back.

She has the makings of a true diva. I'm sure she'll land on her Jimmy Choos. Too bad she couldn't attend the coronation of the new divalicious Minnesota US Attorney, Rachel Paulose. So much fabulousness in one place would have healed the sick.

Where are all of the moonbats on this blog coming from? Every single time a true Christian is mentioned on this site -- be in Pat Robertson, Janice Rogers Brown, Monica Goodling or Karl Rove -- leftists from all over come in and turn the comments into a hate-fest.

Since Lat himself is a political moderate, I find it rather surprising that moderates are so few in the comments.

I agree. It's shameful for people to bash the few good and pure souls left in this horrid world of ours. People like Pat Robertson are not only positive role models for those budding Cardozo's at Regent, but also serve as a constant reminder of how we should live our lives...with integrity and honesty that are above reproach: http://www.cbn.com/communitypublic/shake.aspx

Her bestest friend in the whole world, Rachel Paulose, is such a diva, she's getting other people to do all of her work for her.

Paulose is a '97 YLS grad. She may have been a classmate of Lat. When did Lat graduate?

I'm working on a spec script for a made-for-tv movie on Monica Goodling. I need some casting suggestions. I was thinking Carlos Mencia for Alberto Gonzalez. Blair from "Facts of Life" is probably too old to play Monica.

I see that Loyola grads can't even be trusted to competently watch movies.
