Columbia Law Revue Does Videos, Too
Earlier today, we shared with you two videos from the NYU Law Revue. In the comments to one of these posts, a vigorous “NYU vs. Columbia” debate ensued.
If you’d like to compare NYU and Columbia on the quality of their law revue videos — a critical measure of law school quality, to be added to next year’s U.S. News rankings — here’s a Columbia Law Revue video for your consideration:
Our observations:
1. We have great admiration for Columbia Law School (and will be visiting CLS to give a talk in the near future). We harbor no anti-Columbia bias. But this video strikes us as kinda lame. These are just our personal opinions. Feel free to share yours in the comments.2. Some of the actors, including the Cabaret-inspired emcee, are quite appealing. But the production values leave something to be desired, and some of the jokes are head-scratchers.
3. We must confess, though, that we did laugh at several points — e.g., the Wachtell Lipton quip. Furthermore, after a minute or two, we started to really enjoy the video, in a “so bad it’s good” sort of way.

What's with the huge gut on that first girl? Why, why, why would they show that?
Horrendous. But the twink emcee is HOT.
They should have used an Asian girl for the "New York-Shanghai" reference.
The video from last year's NYU Law Revue was about early interviews too. Here it is...

Enjoy
that cls video was awful. that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the law school, but that was lame as hell.
you'd think from all the movies and shit that lawyers were cool,
but the reality is that most lawyers were nerds in high school
Columbia's Law Revue has better videos than this. like this one about Tim Wu:

LAME. That describes it.
that was really, really painful to watch. i can't believe anyone would want to show something this bad.
just awful
Wow, NYU's Early Interview video is way better.
It's been pulled from YouTube.
Scary as hell.
I may not be able to sleep tonight.
PG: Do you know why it was pulled?
I'm guessing it was because they didn't want these firms to see how they get made fun of. But maybe there are other reasons too.
i'd be embarassed to show that to people too. that was horrible
Awww. I missed it. Anyone manage to get a mirror of some sort before they took it down?
4:38: Count your blessings. Missing it probably added two years to your life span.
they took it down because they realized how fucking stupid they looked actually using the names of firms and behaving like complete idiots on the internet. How stupid do you have to be? Why do these kids nowadays think that something posted on youtube is their own private joke? If it was truly funny then at least it wouldn't have been that embarassing, but it was so pathetically bad, a bunch of 12 year olds could have come up with something better. Good luck getting jobs, kids.
I previously posted the following about the NYU videos:
"These two videos (aside from the Scalia skit) were the only funny things to come out of this year's law revue. BTW, half of the dialogue for both video still stinks.
The law revue last year had better writers and was much funnier. Comedy is funniest when it is done by those who are marginalized in society and poke fun at majority viewpoints. Hence, why many if not most comedians are not wasps. The NYU Law revue is composed of fairly typical white, liberal law students and hence is not that funny.
Few students actually cared about the Apple controversy, large lockers, or the waitlist. People do care about the proposed all-Alsa space (one way or the other), our US News ranking, military recruiting (one way or the other), Professors leaving like Feldman, the limiting of two drinks at Fall Ball and Spring Fling, EIW, L-Rap, and about stupid requirements such as the A-paper.
The Law revue could have caricatured any of these in a humorous way but instead made fun of things few people cared about.
They also didn't really get in any good shots at the professors. Bell, Kahan, Ricky, Slain, Sorter, and especially Feldman should have been prime targets. Instead, they had Rodriguez (which wasn't funny), Estlund (didn't get), Issacaroff (person looked like him but no jokes), and Chevigny (a less funny character than last year).
The dance routines and talents of the law revue members were great, but the writing stunk. Hopefully, they do better next year. I think Columbia may have actually beaten us in something this year."
But I take it back. Columbia you suck. You guys need to go to a comedy club and just admit the funniest person there just so you can have a law revue show that isn't crap. Not a single youtube posting from your show is funny. Even in the Professor Wu video, the girls in the video have trouble shaking their asses in unison.
Apologies to NYU. Compared to Columbia, you guys are Saturday Night Live (back when it was good).
6:09, you're both horrible. End of story.
The fall Columbia Law Revue show was awesome. It sucked last year though, and that's what this video is from. Don't judge them on it. They are much better this year I think. They haven't done their spring show yet.
You are all a bunch of fools.
Gallion OUT!
Gallion OUT = played OUT
Still not as funny as this video....proof that UVA's Libel Show kicks ass:

Wow! Those flicks from the University of Queensland are really good! Who would have thought that Australians could be that funny!
Hah. Way to troll, tool.
Australians...
What do you mean by "way to troll"?
I actually liked some of the Aussie videos - the Harry Potter song was brilliantly written and performed, even if you don't know the song (by Missy Higgins). Dumbledore suddenly dying towards the end is a nice touch. xD
And the spot on parody of March of the Penguins was good as well - it's good to see that stereotypes of engineers are similar in other countries.
I just saw that they even got one of the judges from the High Court to perform in a sketch that send himself up.
That takes balls, to get a High Court judge to do that.
