A Special Message from Bjork: Viva Linklaters!!!

Viva Las Vegas Viva Linklaters Above the Law blog.JPGNo, not that Bjork. We're talking about a different idiosyncratic Scandinavian, who also harbors musical aspirations.

By way of introduction:

This email was sent to the whole of Linklaters by one of their Swedish assistants associates!

Brilliant.

Oh those crazy Swedes...

Check out the email -- which has made the rounds worldwide, is still being forwarded as we speak, and was going to wind up in your inbox eventually, so we feel no qualms about posting it -- after the jump.

As we could tell from the email chain that led it to our inbox, this email has been endlessly forwarded by people. It was originally sent to every single Microsoft Outlook user at the global law firm of Linklaters (a member of the fabulous "Magic Circle").

We have deleted the prior chain of FW: FW: FW:, reproducing only the original message. Here it is:

Subject: Viva Linklaters!

Sw.: Tack för de bästa åren i mitt yrkesverksamma liv - thus far

(En. about: Thank's for the best years in my professional life - thus far)

(En. about: And when now Ethel Metslow shamelessly stole my Elvis-greeting concept, you may put up with the following worked up version of Viva Las Vegas - to be sung at office parties, client events or why not, down at the coffee vending machine)

Godspeed!

/Joacim/ (kontaktdetaljer kommer inom kort)

Viva Linklaters!

(Melodi: Viva Las Vegas)

I'm just a lawyer but my future looks bright, my future looks so bright I work all day yet I party all night, party all of the night There's a thousand pretty women waiting out there Deep pocket clients everywhere A huge potential for a love affair, with Vivaaa Linklaters, Vivaaa Linklaters

We're glad to see that Mr. Bjork has such unbridled enthusiasm for his Biglaw employer. And he's probably not even on the $160K scale (since he works in Stockholm).

But we wonder whether, in the wake of this email, his "future" still "looks bright."

Update: As it turns out, Bjork probably doesn't care very much about what the Linklaters folks think of him, since he just left (and this was his farewell message). More details here (from TheLawyer.com).

Mr. Hedges needs to get back to work. This blog comment strategy is one of the more half-baked ideas I've seen. Hire Abramoff instead

Bjork's from Iceland, not Sweden. Have you not heard of Ace of Base or Abba?

The reference that includes the singer is to "Scandinavian[s]," which includes Iceland.

The subsequent reference to "Swedes" is directed at the emailer.

I would just like to second the resounding endorcements for former U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald J. Hedges. He was a jurist in the truest sense of the word. He possessed a remarkable command of the courtroom, and always, ALWAYS, penned excellent opinions.

This guy was an attorney, not an assistant.

Advokat = Attorney in Swedish.

Swedes are a lot better at chillaxing than Americans. I'm sure the Stockholm office thought this was hilarious.

doesn't the subject really scream out "so long, and thanks for the memories"? I've certainly read more treacly and insipid farewell emails...

You can't "second" your own comments.

Is Linklaters the only firm in NYC (or USA) that you can bill 1800 hours and still get full NYC pay and bonus? That seems like a great gig!
