Clerkship Bonus Watch: The Patterson Belknap Tolls for Thee, Law Clerks

Patterson Belknap Webb Tyler LLP Above the Law blog.jpgThe latest firm to raise its clerkship bonuses: Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler. From a current clerk:

I have an offer from Patterson Belknap and I just received an email informing me that their bonus is 50K.

Keep up the good work.

To people with two clerkships or two years of clerking experience: no, we don't know whether Patterson's $50,000 clerkship bonus is "flat," or whether they pay more for more than one clerkship year. If you have an offer from Patterson and are in this boat, please contact the firm and find out what their policy is. And then tell your friends here at ATL. Thanks!

Keeping it updated (should we add places like Patterson, since they aren't in the Vault 100?). Anyway, here is the:

The $50K "flat" list:

5. Davis Polk

Patterson's policy is $50k "for one or more clerkships."

From now on, I recommend lists of shame only be separated into two lists: people who pay at least 50 and people who don't. Separating the 50 and the 50/70 reduces the visual impact of the lists. We can put a star next to 50/70....

Good point, 12:17. I totally agree:

The $50K List:

2. Cravath*
3. SullCrom*
4. Skadden*
5. Davis Polk
6. STB
7. Cleary
9. Weil*
12. Paul Weiss
13. Debevoise
21. White & Case
54. LeBoeuf*

The "List of Shame":

1. Wachtell ($0)
8. Latham ($35k)
10. Kirkland ($35k)
11. Covington ($35k)
14. Wilmer ($35k)
15. Shearman ($15k)
16. Sidely ($35k)
17. Williams & Connolly ($25k)
18. Gibson ($35k)
19. Arnold ($15k)
20. OMM ($35k)

Wow, that really shows how out of line Wachtell, Latham, and Kirkland are . . . . all the rest of the Vault 10 are at $50k.
