Breaking: Mike Nifong To Resign as Durham District Attorney
It’s a Friday afternoon in June. Of course it couldn’t pass without a high-profile resignation. From WRAL:
Mike Nifong made the announcement at the end of his testimony Friday at his State Bar ethics trial to the surprise of the families and defense attorneys of the cleared lacrosse players.“Throughout the years I have served as a prosecutor I have always tried to do the right thing,” a tearful Nifong said. “In this case, I was trying to todo the right thing. Much of the criticism directed to me in the is case is justified. The allegations that I’m a liar, however, are not justified.”
But is Michael Nifong… a plagiarist?

I don't think he'll have to worry about resigning. I don't think they let DA's practice law without a license, even in North Carolina.
So are we supposed to be believe that "announcing" you are resigning is going to make them not want to disbar you?
Thanks god this is before the ethics committee and not a durham jury, otherwise they might fall for that crap.
Will this get anyone to question the wisdom of elected DAs (let alone judges)?
Not related, but on the topic of resignations, Michael Elston decided to call it a wrap at the DoJ.
Crocodile tears. By tearfully resigning and admitting that some of what he did was wrong, it appears that Nifong hopes that the ethics committee will take pity and let him off with a slap on the wrist and forget that he came close to destroying three innocent lives for nothing. It's Nifong's "you can't fire me because I quit" move.
I realize I probably shouldn’t be too serious on a legal tabloid, but I can’t help myself on this one.
