Harriet Miers Stands Up Her Date With Destiny

Earlier we covered Harriet Miers impending date with destiny in the form of the House Judiciary Committee. Well, it looks like Miers needed some more time to polish up on her French.

From the report from AP via the Reno Gazette-Journal on the hearing that went down sans Miers:

A House panel cleared the way Thursday for contempt proceedings against former White House counsel Harriet Miers after she obeyed President Bush and skipped a hearing on the firings of federal prosecutors.

Addressing the empty chair where Miers had been subpoenaed to testify, Rep. Linda Sanchez ruled out of order Bush’s executive privilege claim that his former advisers are immune from being summoned before Congress.

The contempt issue would go next to the full Judiciary Committee, and ultimately to the entire House.

You at least have to admire Miers for going all the way in following Bush’s order, instead of the I’m-testifying-but-not-really tapdance that Sara Taylor attempted yesterday.

Hope the Dems are stupid enough to hold her in contempt. Then CJ Roberts can give them the smack down next term.

Careful what you wish for 1:40. A ruling expanding executive privilege can't be limited to GWB or just to GOP presidents. If Hilary gets in office, you better believe it will be revenge time.

Seriously, you Democrats need to move on. This whole blame game has gone on long enough. Don't you think the responsible parties haven't been punished enough? The finger pointing in Washington has to stop. No more you broke this law...well Bill Clinton lied under oath, so he broke a law too.

It's time for the nation to focus our attention on our next taget. Iran? Syria? North Korea? We've not invaded a SE Asia country in a generation. Let's mix things up. I vote for the dark horse candidate, Russia. Remember the good old days when only the Commies hated us instead of everyone.

2:21 - May I recommend Canada? It's quite conveniently located...

2:21 is right, we need another war of distraction. This whole "reporting on what is happening in the world" thing is just getting out of hand. Imagine, some news organizations actually have the audacity to report on a former supreme court nominee's flouting the law of the land!!!! What is wrong with them? Don't then know that when Dubya says it's a secret, it's a secret? Don't they know when he says Scooter's sentence was excessive, despite allowing many Texas inmates to rot in jail far longer than necessary because he "believe[d] in the jury system and the courts" he means that it was excessive because it happened to Scooter, not some poor person he doesn't know?

I wouldn't get up in front of that Panel of Clowns for anything. I'd rather do a life sentence!

Enough with the politics already. Why do we have to go through this everytime Merck fills in?

Why didn't all the Republicans move to Canada during the Clinton years? Bashing a Democratic President is patriotic, but bashing a sub-literate Republican President who has no respect for the rule of law or the Geneva Conventions is anti-American -- interesting logic.

Too bad the Democratic party is so incompetent that they can't win against this dork. Which Republican is going to win this year? I can't believe that they'd put a Catholic or Mormon in the White House, so who will it be?

PS. In 20 years with global warming, Vancouver will be like San Diego, and you can bet I'll be there.

This entire situation makes me sick. I love how we all know that the Bush Administration is corrupt and unethical, but yet all we can do is stand around and bitch about it. Is there no PRACTICAL recourse? (And no, I don't think that impeachment is practical because it won't happen.)

Impeaching Cheney is very practical. He is the Dark Emperor behind all of the hideousness which has surrounded the Bush administration. All the VP is supposed to do is preside over the Senate and take over if the Pres is incapacitated or dies. The power Cheney has usurped is completely unconstitutional.
