Today has been painfully slow, even for a Friday. Thankfully, we can always return to a subject that never fails to give a rise to our traffic: Oona O'Connell, the fabulously glamorous young lawyer who has graced the pages of Playboy.
Remember the ATL tipster who first informed us of Oona O'Connell? As you may recall, Ms. O'Connell was pretty pissed:
Oona O'Connell is my given name. It was the name my parents chose for me and I found it very hurtful to hear it described by your ignorant 'tipster' as coming from a 'porn-name generator'.
After reading our recent email correspondence with Oona O'Connell, the tipster felt bad -- and expressed his sentiments in an email.
Check out his message, after the jump.
From the original "ignorant tipster":
Thanks for the continuing Oona coverage. Nice work.I have to say I'm humbled... When that first-year told me about Oona and I looked up her pics, I was thinking that she was some moron who -- like other naked law students covered in ATLs pages -- took off her clothes because she couldn't do anything else. So I sent her info in to you for posting and made fun of her.
Now, after reading your correspondence, she seems pretty cool, and pretty well adjusted. I feel kind of bad that I prejudged her. Send that along to her if you'd like.
Sorry to sound like an afterschool special. But you know what? Perhaps ATL taught me a lesson today. Good on you. "The more you know."
Rest assured, however, I will quickly forget this lesson and will send you more targets for public ridicule.
Isn't that sweet? Here at ATL, we love a happy ending. Yay!

"give a rise" to your traffic? nice.
3:05: Such hostility! You sound like a bitter and unhappy person.
If you find ATL "trashy" - which it should be, since it's a "legal tabloid" - then don't read it. Nobody picks up the National Enquirer and expects it to be the New York Times.
There are many blogs that offer serious analysis of substantive legal issues. ATL is not one of them.
3:21 - My husband thinks NYTimes editorial page = National Enquirer.
Agreed though - this blog is for gossip. If you don't like it, go elsewhere and quit whining.
damn, where's Geene Parmesan?
3:05 - Not that it matters, but Lat is (barely) 32, not 35:

anon2 is clearly Lat. ATL is having a negative effect on the legal profession. Just look at what one of ATL's key contributions, Loyola 2L, has caused in the California legal education system!

Oona O'Connell may not be a porn name, but it is a damn stupid name. Her parents should be forcibly sterilized or enjoined from procreating in the future.
Greg, if you don't like ATL, stop linkwhoring here for your own pathetic blog.
4:12, don't blame Loyola 2L on ATL. He's property of the WSJ Law Blog now.
this thread is the most outrageous idiot fest ever (other than the comments on the GT racism post).
oona... if your name is oona, and you take your clothes off for money, you have to expect a cheap shot or two. rise above and you will be respected.
anonymous tipster... oona is not going to sleep with you just because you apologized. you are obviously lying about her seeming cool and well adjusted, and she probably knows it.
I find Ooona more than attractive on all levels.
Smart enough to graduate LS is, lets face it, smart.
4:55, thanks for the love advice. Now get back to work! Those documents aren't going to review themselves this weekend!
Oona - call me!
Don't know how this Oona says it, but my understanding (from friends who have the same name) is that Oona is actually a reasonably popular name in sections of eastern europe.
It is pronounced "O' o-na" or "O-a-na", not "OOOooo-nah" as has been previously suggested.
4:12 - The post you linked to was a piece of crap. I want back the twelve seconds of my life that I wasted skimming it.
Why would it be a bad thing for the legal profession if these diploma mills were shut down?
6:03 - I'm from Eastern Europe and I've never known anyone named Oona.
It was, however, the name of Charlie Chaplin's fourth wife. And there's a prof at Yale Law named Oona Hathaway.
7:24, what is your problem with education?
Oona is a traditional Irish name, not some wacky, made-up name.
