Nationwide Pay Raise Watch: What's Up With Baker & McKenzie?
Over in the D.C. office of Baker & McKenzie, the natives are getting restless. They've prepared this cute little bar graph (thumbnail image; click to enlarge):
The graphic above also reflects that Williams & Connolly now pays starting salaries of $165,000. We hadn't heard (or written) about that news, but it's official.
Does anyone have a memo and/or more information about what Williams & Connolly pays beyond the first year? If so, please email us. Thanks.
Update / Correction: Whoops, we forgot that W&C raised salaries back in March. What we were thinking, and meant to write, is that Williams & Connolly hasn't raised associate salaries in response to the latest round of nationwide pay hikes (as kicked off by Orrick).
Remember that W&C traditionally doesn't pay year-end bonuses, but pays an above-market base to make up for it. Their current scale -- 165, 180, 195, etc. -- is still above-market, but not by as much as usual.
Further Update / Correction: Apparently Greenberg Traurig is still at $145K in Washington. We've revised the graph accordingly.

Williams & Connolly has been at 165 since the nationwide bump to 145 awhile back. 165 is actually well below market insofar as they do not pay year-end bonuses.
Associates at Baker deserve to make less because they can't make a point without making it red, bold, and with a double label.

Funny how those who made the graph left off one of B&M's biggest global competitors: DLA Piper. They also one-up B&M by paying $160k all over the place (not just NY and DC).
Know pretty much for a fact that my V25 (NY office) is raising to $175K come September.

No memo on Fulbright, nor are we expecting one - all the info was handed down orally at a meeting of all the associates last week.

W&C is currently below market when bonuses are factored in. They have not responded to the latest raises to $160
I love that the graph starts at 135K and has 5K increments. It makes the disparity look HUGE!

4:34 -I have no reason to BS. Its def going to be $175K for first years, the only thing I am unsure of is when. September may be off. Not sure how the rest of the scale is going to be which sucks since I am not a first year.

Although you are (by your own account) way behind on W&C salary info, you may not have heard something else: there is a rumor going round that W&C bumped its clerkship bonus from $25k to $35k.

The Fulbright may be indeed be true. The partner in charge of our compensation committee admitted as much this evening in front of four associates.
Someone joked about Electrical Engineers getting a bump over everyone else. He said it sent shockwaves through the IP partners.
He said that raises "likely are not done for the year" and that things are "very fluid."
He made some half-hearted assertion about being careful of getting what you want, but given that most people had worked through the weekend and to get the work done that was lost.

When you take a step back and think about it, you realize that $160,000 a year is a fucking unbelievable amount of money.
Where the hell is Bingham McCutchen on there? Don't they have a pretty sizable DC office?

I think the only office of Greenberg Traurig at $160k is NY. None of their other offices have announced raises.
seyfarth shaw's dc office (and all others except NYC) are also at 145k.
According to NALP, Nixon Peabody's 107-lawyer office in DC is also at $145 (it appears only the NYC office is at $160).

Actually their graph is short Townsend at 160. They just opened up a D.C. office.
Even if not paying 160k in other locales, Greenberg appears to be at market in those other offices. Except DC. Where is Wilmer on that chart?!
