The Bar Exam: And You Thought Your State Was Tough

What’s the hardest bar exam in the United States? No, it’s not California.

Sure, California is hard. The whole three-day thing is a bitch, and the passage rate is low.

But Cali ain’t got nothing on Guam. Check it: a ZERO PERCENT pass rate.

Don’t believe us? Just ask the three people who took it last July!

P.S. Yes, Guam is part of the United States — it’s an organized unincorporated territory. Federal appeals originating in Guam get heard by the Ninth Circuit. Lucky them!

I wonder if the folks taking the Guam bar come from the mainland or if they're genuine Guambats.

Hawaii firm Carlsmith Ball has an office in Guam (and LA). Sadly, I can't find first-year pay or clerkship bonus information on their site.

With a pass rate like that, Guam is officially part of Bandyland.

Carlsmith fringe benefit for Summer Associates:

"In addition to a monthly salary, the firm pays the summer associate's airfare to and from the city in which he or she will be working."

A summer in Guam . . . hmm.

Was Emily Pataki one of those that failed?

I've decided that I want to go to Guam because there are no birds there due to the introduction of the non-native brown tree snake. I hate birds. They have no concept of the fact that I'm sleeping at 6am.

I went to law school with someone from Guam. I don't think she went back.

Pick a character. You can find a spolier on the 'net that says they died. Although the only people that really know are JK and the soon-to-be defendants that photographed the book and put it up for download.

Old, old news. Saw this somewhere else WEEKS ago. Next thing you'll post will be speculation if JFKJR will pass the bar this time.

I'm as pissed as anyone else about the BarBRI settlement being approved (seriously - $125? That's what BarBRI charges for a photocopy), but this sort of makes you realize how useful those jerks really are. I'm betting that nobody offers test prep. to the three people who want to take the Guam bar; and without it, how the heck are you going to know what laws they have down there? Read their statutes line by line?

I suspect there's not that much legal business on Guam and those already practicing there are none too keen on expanding the competition. Hence the low pass rate.

If you lived on Guam you'd fail the bar too, and you wouldn't care.

The February exam was a little better - 60% pass rate.
