Think Twice Before Asking For That Pay Raise

gun pistol firearm Second Amendment Above the Law blog.jpgFor all of you greedy associates out there, here's a cautionary tale. From CNN:

The owner of a car dealership has been accused of killing two employees because they kept asking for pay raises.

Rolandas Milinavicius has been charged with two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of Inga Contreras, 25, and Martynas Simokaitis, 28.

All three are from the eastern European nation of Lithuania but had been living in Atlanta, Georgia....

Oh, Atlanta.

Might this represent a new strategy for boosting profits per partner? Laying off associates (or de-equitizing less lucrative partners) generates so much bad publicity. Could knocking off a few lawyers be that much worse?

(If the victims were billing under 1950, that's manslaughter rather than murder, as a matter of law.)

I second, second. Honestly, Merck has a great sense of humor but a terrible delivery. Lat has a terrible sense of humor, but a great delivery.

Perhaps if we could blend them into once person this site could reach it's true potential.

So is this the Hays' brothers new strategy? Hell, maybe ATL firms can patent their compression as a business practice.

fail. But it's OK. To get the high highs, you take the low lows that accompany.

Better luck next time.

The 1950 line is the best Lat joke in weeks.

Thanks for the warning, but I'll take my chances. Has Latham raised its bonus yet?

Or, 1:17, you'd just end up with a person with poor taste AND poor delivery.

I think this could have been handled much more adroitly by Lat, perhaps with a broader tie-in to market difficulties in Atlanta. However, as it is, the comparison is just sad: entitled, self-important lawyers keep getting ever-increasing salary bumps due to eternal pestering (notably on sites like this one), while two immigrant car-shipping business workers get shot for asking their boss for raises. Reality check, people.

Atlanta to $35k!

20 Posted by Anon | Permalink Tuesday, July 31, 2007 3:51 PM

Um, 3:40, Lat's a lawyer (he has the updated CLEs to prove it). If you agree with 3:28, Lat would therefore have no sense of humor, and so he would be cracking you up through the exercise of his non-existent sense of humor. Ergo, you agree that Lat is not funny, and you are therefore cracking up at something which is unfunny-- your comment, then, reduced to its logical root, is merely that you yourself have a bizarre sense of humor. Snuff films make you get all chuckly too, hm?

That was great. And, Lat's line about 1950 was equally as good.
