UW Law School Tuition Hikes? Blame Lasee’s Lousy Love Life

Frank Lasee 2 Wisconsin WI Abovethelaw Above the Law blog.jpgRemember Wisconsin state representative Frank Lasee? He came up with the brilliant idea of cutting off state funding for the University of Wisconsin Law School. The governor characterized the proposal as “ridiculous and bizarre”; Ann Althouse condemned the idea here.

Anyway, now we have a little more insight into his psyche. See here, here, and here.

UWLS is hanging in there. We suffer from a mediocre administration and a dearth of non-crim classes, but hey, it isn't rocket science.

This law school has a fine history and rich traditions, but a new administration would be nice. I don't think our current Dean could even beat Lasee in a debate.

I blame women for this.

You know you're in trouble when the dean begs the students not to portray him as an alcoholic in the annual law revue (sometimes also known as libel show). He then led the student body in a champagne toast and the kegs were tapped. It was a Monday.

Everytime I glance quickly at that picture on the homepage of ATL I think it's Tony Danza.

Please stop linking to Althouse whenever you discuss UWLS. She's a hack!

2:53 -- UW has always been a bastion of excessive drinking. The Law School is no different from any other part of the university. Playboy stopped including UW in its annual party school rankings because it declared that UW students were professionals. Let's not forget that Wisconsin was one of the last, if not the last, state in the country to raise the drinking age to 21.

snark-

There is no annual Playboy party school ranking, but as a UW alum, I'm happy to have the myth perpetuated. Playboy has done only 3 rankings (1997, 2002, 2006). And who was number one in 2006? Wisco.
