Agreed, 10:52. Can you imagine what this woman puts up with in the Bronx Family Court?! If you can't get regular litigants and counsel to treat court with respect or act competently and civilly, what hope is there for the family courts?

Gotta agree with 11:34 et al. Judges should absolutely be respectful, but I can't even imagine what a zoo the Family Court is in any borough. Problem is, there is just so much at stake for the parties in Family Court - tempers must flare everywhere. As for inappropriate dress, I'm curious whether it was the lawyer or the client who got tossed.

None of this stuff sounds all that shocking. Obviously its all taken out of context -- the context being the crazy-house that is family court.

What a profession. At least you people make good money for putting up with this stuff. I have to put up with it for $15/hour.

we professional married couple family accusation of child school neglect escalated into surreal went before judge shelton she made an absolute mess of the correct sequence of accusation and proof after cops kicked door in and took kids without warning or proof on xmas eve eve, too. wanted trial knew i would win due to no proof of accusations she opened book and told me no court date until following january a year from the date my kids were seized had to plea to school neglect just to get kids back home took year anyway and we paid family 2000 per month every month there is no jurisdiction over her. family court breaks up families and if ur in the bronx ur screwed. they assume every parent is bad and woe if u are a single mom, who i have to say from my witness works damn hard. now i live in rich rich area no jersey millionaires they are the laziest worse parents i have ever witnessed no one is knocking down their door. until you wake up one day and ur world is surreal due to no help on ur part do not speak less u wake up tomorrow smug no more it can happen to any parent beware and always have a good lawyer on speed dial

for future quotage on ur part family court is different because u are presumed guilty till proven innocent not as in criminal or civil where u are innocent until proven guilty u are not just pitted in ur innocence against a da or a da and jury u are pitted against judge who will never side with the parent (or else why would they be here in front of me ms judge) childrens lawyer plus the lawyer for acs plus acs (which is childrens services)and maybe school official venomous neighbors perhaps medical workers the list goes on on ur side is ur lawyer which if legal aid ur screwed because they have too many cases to care about yours the role of the judge is to hear both sides parents and the the city or acs or whoever is pit against the parents weigh the evidence for either side if any interview kids which is corrupt enuf and recommend a fix to the situation which got u there and provide help to heal family (the family court scene is enuf to demand therapy) instead if u go before a judge in aug u will not get another date until maybe april then another one in december u got better luck getting bail for a murder family court is corrupt in that it polices itself there is no higher jurisdiction to oversee its rulings or its queen bees its jesters its court clowns etc its about time the dam broke even tho now its just a crack it will grow larger

Wow --- how quick many of you are to post speculative comments and cracks about what a "zoo" Family Court (particularly in The Bronx) must be, and how families/children and their counsel must DESERVE to be treated so wretchedly by Shelton simply because they appear in Family Court in the Bronx regarding a family matter. That's the exact racist, ignorant and classist attitude that pervades her courtroom on an overt and consistent basis and causes it to be devoid of true justice. Yes, TRUE justice --- that which should REALLY be found in the courtroom, right? (This is, of course, in contrast to the "TV" form of justice, which is little more than insults labeled as “straight-talk” and eye-rolling labeled as “in your face attitude,” but which somehow manages to captivate the lowest-common-denominators within the viewing audience).

I'm sure no one would be surprised to find those who make "Oh, she's just a little lady judge in the big bad Bronx" comments dressed up in white bedsheets and/or "Giuliani 2008" t-shirts on the regular. While I initially feared it was members of the Bar who actually contributed posts about how utterly delectable Shelton must be, my concern was slightly alleviated when I reasoned they probably aren't actually genuine opinions of people who can lay claim to a legal, ethical, just and analytical mind, but rather mere posts from Shelton's apparently well-funded publicity camp.

Well, whoever posited such ridiculousness, take note:
Regardless of whether you live in a red state, blue state or $1.8 million apartment in Manhattan (which means you probably only “dare” go to the Bronx for Yankee games), you should be reminded that unless you’ve actually regularly experienced New York City Family Court practice or have some real knowledge about it, posts about a “crazy-house” Family Court smack of careless and unfounded speculation, and contribute absolutely nothing to any intelligent dialogue surrounding the propriety of Shelton’s on-the-bench behavior and statements in the family law arena. Please know that your posted admiration of and support for Shelton's "right to abuse" all who appear before her insults the brilliant, talented, dedicated, kind-hearted, tireless and amazing professionals (government and legal aid attorneys, 18b attorneys, case and social workers, and those judges who are actually respected), who manage to work hard (most for minimal pay) to protect innocent children, reunite families, uphold justice, combat prejudice and remedy institutionalized and societal ills, despite all of Judge Shelton's maniacal efforts to the contrary. So go get a clue.
