Thank God Paulina Bandy Didn't Live in Texas

Paulina Brady bar exam well endowed Abovethelaw Above the Law blog.jpgThe tipster who sent this to us wrote:

"It's a bit grim, but since it's a slow news day, perhaps you can use this story about a man who apparently murdered his wife, after he failed the Texas bar 4 times. As noted in the article, the alleged perpetrator had lobbied the Texas Supreme Court to lift the rule that limited law graduates to five attempts to pass the bar exam."

You can say whatever you like about her, but Paulina Bandy handled her thirteen bar exam failures in a much more healthy manner.

"A UDC faculty member who asked not to be identified finds that “UDC's law school is ranked virtually last in the nation in both academics and by judges. It has clearly been recognized as a waste of taxpayers' funds by a variety of community leaders and groups". This is evidenced by the fact that that a Washington Times Freedom of Information request discovered that “Less than a quarter of graduates from the University of the District of Columbia's law school pass the bar exam on the first try, well below the national average of 73 percent"

Presumably the character and fitness committee would be a tougher hurdle than the bar exam.

You should have 2 opportunities to pass a bar exam. If you fail after the second go it should be lights out.

3:19: Sorry you failed the first time. However, those of us who passed the first time do not believe a second chance should be given at all.

Wasn't UDC on the brink of bankruptcy several years ago?

Uh everything in DC was on the brink of bankruptcy a few years ago. Thanks Marion Barry!

The article just says he was "a Washington, DC law school graduate", which I take to mean location rather than a reference to UDC. Has someone contacted the alumni office?

The quote from the Prof. indicates "University of D.C." Law School.
