Why Don’t Yale Law Faculty Like Hillary?
Check out this interesting data about the campaign contributions of Yale faculty and staff, over at Instapundit. It prompted Glenn Reynolds to ask: “Why don’t the Yale Law faculty like Hillary?”
Good question. And here’s another: Even if the Yale Law faculty don’t like this distinguished YLS alumna, why don’t they at least send their (hopefully non-tainted) money her way? Don’t they want her to remember them when she’s President Clinton, looking to fill high-ranking Justice Department posts or spots on the federal bench? As the old saying goes, “Scratch a Yale law professor (or graduate) and you’ll find an aspiring federal judge.”

I remember reading somewhere -- I think it was a book called Naked Economics, but I don't remember -- that it isn't clear if electoral success follows money or vice versa. IOW, Yale may simply be betting on the horse they think will win, not the one they want to win.
Of course, many donors avoid this problem by giving to multiple candidates. But it's a thought.

I am seriously surprised at the lack of support for HRC at Yale, considering that everyone else is throwing cash at her. Maybe they know something others don't.
So... supporting Hillary means not taking along YLS baggage, but supporting Obama and Richardson does? Sign me up for Hillary.
Perhaps, gasp, the Yale law profs are actually acting on their principles, or in other words, with the courage of their convictions. Specifically, ask yourself, what has been the most significant act of the current president, which required congressional approval (i.e. it has cost, and will continue to cost, the nation billions of dollars, thousands of American lives, and our standing in the world)?
The invasion of Iraq. Those who oppossed the invasion cannot in good conscience vote for a politician who authorized it. Those who voted for Kerry in the last election, but who opposed the war, made a mockery of the franchise and their own principles. To support Hillary would be no less unprincipled. (At least Edwards has fully, without qualification, recanted and apologized for his authorization.)
Having supported the invasion (not for the "stated" Bush reasons, but for those articulated by Christopher Hitchens, Thomas Friedman, Michael Walzer and the like), I had little trouble sleeping after I cast my ballot for Kerry (plus, his whole frustratingly goofy campaign tended to induce sleep). I will have no trouble voting fore Obama, even though he was actively protesting the invasion (as did my spouse and many friends), because he did not authorize it. As for Hillary, it isn't her authorization for the war that makes her a distant second place in my book - it's everything else about her.
So, how many Yale profs do you think supported the invasion? Here's a bonus: How many supported the Patriot Act?
In addition to the paramount matters of American lives, money and standing in the world, one wonders how the Yale profs can support anyone other than Wild Man Denny Kucinich. After all, in addition to his strenuous objection to the war, the Patriot Act, etc., he happens to be the ONLY Democrat running for president who supports same-sex marriage....
