Co-Non-Top-Tier Law Graduate of the Day

Ok, here's the final non-top-tier law graduate of the day:
Name: Leon Panetta
Law School: Santa Clara University
Current Position: Co-Director of The Leon & Sylvia Panetta Institute of Public Policy, and frequent talking head
Why He's Our Winner: Former Congressman and White House Chief of Staff to Bill Clinton
And this winner reminds us of an honorable mention, which follows the jump.
Leon Panetta bio [Wikipedia]
The Leon & Sylvia Panetta Institute for Public Policy

Name: James Carville
Law School: Louisiana State University - Baton Rouge
Current Position: Political consultant, talking head, etc.
Why He's Only Honorable Mention: Because we already had two winners today. Also, by his own admission, Carville was a pretty terrible lawyer, and had to resort to politics to succeed. But succeed he has.
Carville is of course best known for his role in getting Bill Clinton elected as President in 1992. The most impressive thing about Carville is that he has achieved so much as a political communicator despite the fact that it's utterly impossible to decipher a single word that he says. And he's only a Tier 2.

*yawn*
When's Lat back?
Dear blogger hacks - go google "Collotta" and report back with some interesting news involving lawyers. Oh - and to keep the monkeys entertained please find out what tier of law school they attended.
From the wjs - "A married couple, both lawyers, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and securities fraud Thursday in what was described as one of the biggest insider-trading cases in the U.S. since the 1980s, a $15 million scam that reached into some of the nation's top financial firms."
I heard that Leon Panetta's poop is currency in Argentina.
Merck, can you go take up S&M please? Maybe then someone will tie you up and gag you, and we won't have to read any more of your posts.
As a general proposition, people from prestigious law schools who can't hack it in private practice become law professors and people from shitty law schools who can't hack it run for office.
Are we going to consider every politician who attended law school a "successful" Tier-2 graduate. Give me a break.
Off the top of my head, here are a few other TTT success stories:
Sen. Rick Santorum (Dickinson)
Sen. Bob Casey (Catholic)
Sen. Joe Biden (Syracuse)
Give me a break.
i hope i can turn my SCU degree into a career like Panetta's!
A Bushie followed by a Clintonite = dull. Come on, there are plenty of highly successful non-top-tier law grads out there. Can't we have more like the OMM partner from a couple of days ago?
*YAWN*
Can we move to a non-top-tier-grad-of-the-month post? Or maybe of-the-decade?
Sure, some people win the lottery. But that doesn't make the suckers who who continue to play "winners." It just keeps them buying tickets, and I'm not sure they should be buying tickets.
Here is a good one. University of Houston Law Center, and a partner at Gibson Dunn in OC, CA.

That's not a photo of Leon Panetta you jackass, it's Jamie Farr
hey, this is easy - google "[fourth tier law schoo] wiki" pull up the link and go to "notable alumni" - this is for willamette:
William A. Barton - Trial attorney, author
Bruce Botelho - Current mayor of Juneau, Alaska
Jay Bowerman - Former Governor of Oregon
Wallace P. Carson, Jr. - Former Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court
Willis C. Hawley - Former member of the United States House of Representatives
Fern Hobbs - Former secretary to Governor Oswald West
Jay Inslee - Current member of the United States House of Representatives
Virginia Linder - Current Associate Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court
Lesil McGuire - Current member of the Alaska Senate
Paul De Muniz - Current Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court
Lisa Murkowski - Current United States Senator
Norma Paulus - Former Oregon Secretary of State
Doesn't work for Widener, which admits (in wikipedia at least) to having no notable graduates.
4:01--are you doing a kit kat commercial or something?
4:20, those people are all douche bags I have never heard of. They don't count. None of them count. Especially uncounted remains Bruce Botelho, the mayor of Juneau, Alaska, which itself does not count because it is in Alaska.
You're getting better Billyboy. However, the comma before the "and" in the following sentence makes baby Jesus cry:
"Also, by his own admission, Carville was a pretty terrible lawyer, and had to resort to politics to succeed"
wahhhhh waaaaaaahhhhh
Does anyone else notice how this site goes downhill quickly when Billy takes control? What a loser.
Hands down, the most famous of TTT alum has to be the People's COL graduate, the mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Ramon Villaraigosa (aka Ramon Villar, Jr.). Aside from not being able to pass the bar, he manages to complete his impressive credentials by combining his last name with his ex-wife's ( Corina Raigosa), sorta like Voltron.
To be fair, LSU was Tier 4(!) when Carville graduated. At this rate, in twenty more years we'll pass Stanford.
For a long-time, the Bellarmine prep, SCU, SCU law school is the established route for local Catholic establishment political machine.
The rush of immigration and in-flow of tech sector workers had changed the local politic in Silicon Valley. But for someone of his generation, there is nothing wrong with his academic path.
On a related note, his daughter-in-law had just been appointed to state bench this week.
Dream on iNonymous!
Don't hate on Carville.
@4:48: Yes, but the drop-off in the quality of comments is much more dramatic. Congratulations on contributing to that trend.
4:01 tried harder, but still failed.
Better Merck-hate or STFU.
At least Billy Merck didn't call anyone a nip again in his most recent set of ATL entries.
Good job, Billy. Pretty soon, you'll be able to formulate complete sentences and everything.
I nominate Ron Cami, a well-respected partner at Cravath. He's a '93 Rutgers grad. Granted, when he graduated (as I did in '97) Rutgers was 1st tier (T40 in fact). Now T50 include schools like Alabama. Go figure.
I nominate Ed Hochuli, the best referee in the NFL.

"Are we going to consider every politician who attended law school a "successful" Tier-2 graduate. Give me a break."
The guy was Chief of Staff to the President of the United States. I think that qualifies as "successful"
