It’s Official: Pants Suit Plaintiff Loses Post
What was looking likely has come to pass. From today’s Washington Post:
Roy L. Pearson Jr., the administrative law judge who lost his $54 million lawsuit against a Northeast Washington dry cleaner, lost his job yesterday and was ordered to vacate his office, sources said.Pearson, 57, who had served as a judge for two years, was up for a 10-year term at the Office of Administrative Hearings, but a judicial committee last week voted against reappointing him.
The panel had a seven-page letter hand-delivered to Pearson about 3:30 p.m., directing him to leave his office by 5 p.m. Pearson’s term ended in May, at the height of his battle with the dry cleaners. Since then, he has remained on the payroll, making $100,000 a year as an attorney adviser.
So what’s next for ex-judge Roy Pearson? A book deal for a memoir, tentatively entitled Diary of a Mad Black ALJ? A reality television show, in which Judge Pearson files dubious lawsuits and sees if any of them go anywhere?

Not that he didn't deserve it, but the hour-and-a-half notice was a bit lacking in class. What, did they expect him to trash his chambers on the way out?
this is a highly unfair way to treat someone who was unquestionably dedicated to his job for decades. And all he did was exercise his legal right to sue for something he perceived as an injustice. This will have a chilling effect for anyone who seeks redress for injustice in America.
He's a judge so he should've known better. When your average person sues even for trivial things, it's no big deal. But when a judge does it, the judge better be sure that the suit is appropriate. Otherwise, it shows how he lacks judgement. If the judicial committee doubts his judgement, of course he's not going to be reappointed!
That said, 1.5 hr notice to leave his office was very harsh. But maybe they know something that we don't so I won't say it was "uncalled for", there might be something else going on.

His is lucky they gave him an hour and a half to collect his stuff. If I was in charge of firing this pyscho, I would have armed guards watch over him during the 10 minutes I gave him to leave.
Also, do we really need to call him Judge. I mean really, I know the "J" in ALJ stands for judge, but we all know it could easily be changed to ALC where the "C" stands for Clown!

I fear, however, that this may make retired-judge Pearson industriously litigious. Without a job to keep him otherwise occupied and somewhat limited, just imagine the complaints he can file.

2:33 and 2:36--Search Pearson on this site and read all the articles. In a nutshell he put a hard working immigrant couple out of business by suing them for $54 million for (not) losing his pants and otherwise made a fool of himself and a joke of his (our) profession.
I don't know him personally, but I didn't know Adolf Hitler either and I feel safe in calling him a psycho.
Now he has no pants and no robes. Poor guy. Maybe he'll dress up as a judge for Halloween.

While I think Pearson is an assclown, "in a nutshell", as you would say, the cleaners were taken to the cleaners by THEIR OWN LAWYER.
There's no way that case should have cost $100K to defend.
I would have taken that case pro bono in a heartbeat.

Why don't you go for it, Mr. Charity? The appeal is still going on, as Roy Pearson is forcing the Chungs to incur yet MORE attorneys' fees in fighting his stupid quest for gazillions. I'm sure the Chungs would be more than happy to have you represent them in the appellate process for free.

I figure they perceive a pecking order, and Asians who barely speak English are lower than blacks who also barely speak English.
