A Sex Scandal Round-Up
Some quick updates on law-related sex scandals previously covered in these pages:
First, Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison, a recent Lawyer of the Day, is resigning. We'd say that this is pretty lame; what prominent public official hasn't had an affair? But there are other allegations in the mix, including a claim that he tried to get dirt on a political rival from his lover, which make the resignation more understandable.
Second, yes, we missed last week's juicy NYM story about financier Jeffrey Epstein, alleged former paramour of model Maximilia Cordero. Fortunately, our colleagues over at DealBreaker didn't; Bess Levin's post appeared here.
Finally, a sex scandal that's new to these pages: some 1Ls at UVA getting busted for bonking, in a cell phone booth at the law library. Of course, library sex is nothing new. But it seems to be moving up the U.S. News rankings.

Sex in Your Law School Library Is Illegal, and 'Necessity Is Not a Defense'

The source for that 1L-sex-in-the-library story has to be one of the most unreliable/useless sources ever posted on ATL. Which is saying something.
I go to UVA - where is the cell phone booth in the library???????? I have never noticed one...
Doh! My "first" was deleted. But I will return for another day . . . .
10:59 - That must be why they thought it would be a good place to go. There are signs in the library for them though.
That's one way to take care of exam-time stress...
the uva story is true, an email was sent to their to student advisers.
2nd floor - right of the circulation desk - there's two of them kinda hidden away in the hallways between the main room and the area to the North :)
I go to UVA -- we have student advisers???? I have never heard of this.....
Whoa, we have a LIBRARY??
If they had gone to a good law school they wouldn't have been caught.
Why not just have sex in the study rooms in the library? (We had them everywhere in E.B. Williams.) It's roomier.
cell phone booth in the library? that's kind of useful. We just use the hall outside here. Of course, our library is half underground, and I hardly get cell phone reception in there anyway.
Is this considered a violation of the UVA Honor Code? Will they be kicked out of school now under the Single Sanction Rule?
Honor code just covers lying/cheating/stealing. Only thing violated was this couple's dignity.
11:28 = post of the day.
this story is worthless about details...or at least without snarky messages sent to the school.
until UVa gets off their lazy bums and starts sending some fantastic emails, Wash U still wins this round. :)
UVA 3L (11:38), yes, we have a library. I can't remember which building it is; I always get it and the chapel confused.
11:41: you use the hall outside for sex or cell phone conversations?
12:29: the rumor is over a week old and no ridiculous email thread has arisen, nor will it. The only thing that gets UVA people riled up is a dispute over softball or beer pong rules, this is not even worth commenting on other than a thumbs up in the newspaper.
and beer pong rules clearly allow sex in the library cell phone room. So it's a non-issue here.
Hey, I don't know if you were doing your "The Year in Sex Scandals" post, but if you were, you definitely missed one:

It was WGWAG.
I'm psyched to see how many UVA students read ATL. No wonder we're slipping in the rankings...
