I agree with the commenter on the Observer's website.

How is a journalist as renowned as Linda Greenhouse making less ($140K) than thousands of anonymous law-firm associates ($160K)?

7:00: If she had been out to make the big bucks, she would have gotten herself a JD.

Also (assuming that journalism is a profession for the public-spirited), note that you won't find many public interest lawyers earning $140k. And the Justices she covers "only" earn $217k.
