Heather Mills-ionaire Don't Need No Stinkin' Lawyer

limbs.jpgHeather Mills was awarded nearly $50 million yesterday in her divorce from Paul McCartney. CNN has video of Mills speaking with reporters after the verdict. Mills says:

It was an incredible result in the end to secure mine and my daughter’s future and that of all the charities that I obviously plan on helping and making a difference with.

The funny way Mills says "obviously plan on helping" in the video made us surf over to her official website and look at her charities. The charities seem like a collection of photo opportunities: Heather in a hard hat with a landmine sign, Heather with limbs, etc.

We also discovered a bizarre "Heather's Friends" section, which includes video testimonials from Richard Branson and Hillary Clinton. Weird.

Mills spends a good amount of time ranting about the law courts' conspiracy against litigants who represent themselves:

Obviously the court do not want a litigant in person to do well, it’s against everything that they ever wish, so when they write the judgment up they’re never going to make it look in favor.

We would just like to point out that Mills requested nearly $251 million and only received a fifth of that. And now her daughter has to fly coach. We hope her daughter does not ever have to use American Airlines.

Ms. Hill: well done. Hope you stick around. I see you have adopted the royal "we" -- you'll fit right in.

Exhibit 1-300 of why I will never get married. I have been with the same woman for 14 years. We have no plans to get married and are 10x happier than 90% of our married friends.

What does marraige really get you? No one who knows us would ever say that my girlfriend and I are any less committed than any married couple. In fact, it is probably the opposite. Since we know that either could leave at any momment, we do more to make sure the other is happy. Married people often seem to hold a sense of entitlement to the other persons affection. Is that what a piece of paper gets you? Silly.

Yes, I vote for a post on how attorneys always come out looking bad on the Bachelor. Seriously, talking about your love of President Bush in the first five minutes that you meet a British guy? Well, at least neither of the lawyers gave him their underwear...

More proof that the Beatles have horrible judgment when it comes to women.

And she threw a glass of water over Macca's lawyer in court:

Requesting and receiving $250 M after a 4 year marriage are two different things.

At $50M she made out great.

If she was represented, he lawyer would have convinced her to drag this action out for 3 more years and spend $10 M in attorney's fees.

Divorce attorneys are expert in manupulating their clients into revenge litigation where there are fees to ba made.

Poor Paul.

To be fair, Heather Mills HAS been a lifelong and passionate advocate for animal rights and on behalf of the disabled. And apparently she has donated huge sums of money to charities, to the extent that even Paul agreed in one media interview that she wasn't a gold digger (at least not in the traditional sense of the word). So maybe her fame has given her lots of new photo ops, but I've been reading about her/seeing her name in various places for years.

Honestly, her plan to give away half the money just rubs me the wrong way. Could you imagine having to pay an ex a ton of money that she just planned to give away? It's one thing for Paul to support her in an oppulent lifestyle, but why should he have to fund her pet charities?

What's that old saying, something like, the lawyer who represents herself has a one-legged skank for a client? It seems particularly apt here.

"Obviously the court do not want a litigant in person to do well ..."

$50 million and she has conspiracy theories about not getting her fair day in court? Unbelievable.

One-legged skank is right.
