The T25 Club: Membership Has Its Privileges
The rich get richer. Movie stars who already earn millions of dollars per picture get showered with freebies, like award show “gift bags” worth thousands of dollars. Similarly, students at top law schools, who already have their pick of $160K job offers, get wined and dined by leading law firms. There IS such a thing as a free lunch, if you go to the right law school.
Of course, the quality of the fare will vary. From a tipster at a top 25 law school (according to the latest U.S. News rankings):
This isn’t that exciting of a tip, but the flyer just kind of freaks me out. What’s up with that graphic?See you ‘round the taco table!

We were similarly troubled by these Alpo-stuffed creations, which didn’t strike us as very taco-like. But then we recalled that tacos can be soft as well as hard.
Which got us wondering: What is the difference between a soft taco and a burrito? We found enlightenment here and here.
A Massachusetts judge, as well as ATL readers, previously concluded that a burrito is not a sandwich. But a soft taco, insofar as it is “open” — i.e., with exposed fillings, like a traditional sandwich — may present a closer case.

There is nothing like the spring 1L cocktail receptions at top law schools. Free booze and all you have to do is put down a fake name of a friend and you can get away with a little bit more drinking.
Must be a slow day at ATL today.
some NY firms have a reputation for cross-referencing 1L attendance at their receptions with on-campus interviews as 2Ls...
Dorsey didn't give me a callback. Their loss.
I have given this alot of thought being from Texas and all.
Tacos can be soft or hard as long as long as at the top it is open.
If flat open it is a chalupa.
If wrapped up like in the above picture then you are dealing with burritos, especially if there are beans and or cheese in it.
Off to get some tacos, thanks for the hunger pangs, Lat.
If you are talking Mexican cuisine, the burrito is almost non-existent. Tacos are served on a completely open-faced soft corn torilla (or two) and the diner must fold the taco herself in order to eat it.
1:51, I'm sure the firm will recover someday.
Mexican cuisine is vomit. Me likey Taco Bell.
Actually, burritos are really just a sub-class of tacos. Some refer to burritos as "tacos de harina" (or "flour [tortilla] tacos"), in contrast to the traditional "tacos de maiz" (or "corn [tortilla] tacos")
The so-called "soft taco" is a uniquely American invention (actually, all tacos in Mexico are soft -- there is no hardshell version). The idea behind the soft taco seems to be to have a in-between version of the normally smaller corn taco and the larger flour burrito -- i.e., a small, flour taco.
you people are crazy!! you are making fun of people giving away free tacos???? You should be thanking them!!! Tacos are DELICIOUS!
hmm? I wonder if this is the UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA. why is it blanked? Anyway, dorsey gave me an offer but I SHOT THEM DOWN!
wow. theoretically a law firm could afford something better than crappy clip art on their flyers.
times is hard. times is hard.

Fucking UMN, started there when it was #18, then dealt w/ dropping to #20. Now it drops to #22, come on.
LAT, wtf is the point of this post?
SEN - step away from the keyboard...
New game played by Dorsey Hiring Partners: whoever can eat the most rancid tacos w/o puking gets the last summer associate slot.
2:34-i hear ya brohan
use to be able to say T-20; now can only say T-25. We are in the shitter.
i think they use T4 grads to roll the tacos...cheaper than illegals...
omg, 2:44, BEST POST THIS WEEK!!!!
You can eat my TACO -- SEN
It's wierd that you blacked out the name of the school, since you pretty clearly hint that it's Minnesota.
Wow: I've already forgotten what name "SEN" stands for, but her misplaced 'qualifications' linger on.... This may be worthy of adding to my lexicon, as in: "Stop being such a SEN! Just listen and don't say anything!"
oh shit
3:02 - Not necessarily. DW also recruits in NY and CA schools, among others, and there are top-25 schools in those states as well.
It's definitely Minnesota. http://www.law.umn.edu/news/calendar.html?cal=month2&year=2008&month=4
2:34 I'm in the same boat as you and it hurts.
Its good to see that the commitment to diversity extends to the choice of cuisine provided...of course the clear misidentification of the alleged "tacos" is patently offensive and as such I demand to be compensated or at least given a doc review job for $160k plus which I can use to buy many superior tacos, burritos, flautas or the coveted chimichanga...the possibilities are endless...soy es el mejor abogado en el mundo...
Nobody refers to the "Top 25" unless they aren't in the Top 20. Which eliminates all of those NY and CA schools.
I know, I graduated from Minnesota. It used to be a "Top 20" school. Now it's "Top 25." Except in the Vault ratings, where we are "Top 16."
I went to the U. Never interviewed at Dorsey or ever wanted to but want to the Taco lunch as a 1L.. It really is more of a mexican buffet. Two types of meat; rice and beans, full toppings, guac... It truly was good stuff. Absolutely the highlight of my 3 years there. Way above the hot dogs they give out on opening day....
I know my tacos. I know my burritos. Those are neither. Try enchiladas (albeit a little light on the sauce).
You people should be studying!
No more hot dogs on opening day, 3:44. That is what you get when the chaos of a co-deanship grips your school.
You're either top 10 or you're not. But there's 11 schools that are top 10.
I don't know why you people are so excited about a taco lunch. When I got my MBA Goldman came up to my school (in New England) for it's annual all-you-can-eat LOBSTAHFEST. That's a good free meal!!!
4:52- when Goldman came up to your school did they bring a sign that said "LOBSTAHFEST for DOUCHEBAGS"?
I'm going to go with no, but it was probably implied.
Also, remember that UMN was where Prosser started and where Irving Younger ended. It's a good school
Dorsey is a TTT. It has closed it's Japanese practice and no-offered numerous summers in its NYC office.
Sinking Ship.
false and false.
Minnesota is V25.
Stop thinking that you're so special. Nearly all of the big NYC firms also do recruiting lunches at Brooklyn, which I'm pretty sure is not a T25.
