ATL Caption Contest Finalists: Mr. Easter Bunny and POTUS

Mr_Easter_Bunny.jpgSome of you have wondered about the delay in choosing finalists for the ATL Caption Contest. We did not forget about it; we just wanted to save a little Easter for April, the proper month for the holiday. Easter in March is just plain wrong.

As a refresher, this is the photo of President Bush and his White House Counsel -- Fred Fielding, former senior partner at Wiley Rein (fka Wiley Rein & Fielding), dressed up as the Easter Bunny -- at the White House Easter Egg Roll last month. Without further ado, out of 200 comments, these are our ten finalists. [FN1]

A. "I left a firm with over $4 million in PPP to do THIS???" -Anonymous

B. The Mad Hatter and the March Hare discuss the legality of waterboarding the Dormouse. -Klerk

C. "Mr. President, I wanted to let you know that I put the last of those White House e-mails down the rabbit hole." -Anonymous

D. Yeah, well, nobody wants to be the guy that told the POTUS there is no Easter Bunny and Cheney said that if I play along I'll get a Supreme Court nomination. Hey, whatever happened with that Harriet woman? -Anonymous

E. I dressed up in this bunny suit and all I got was a feature on ATL. -Anonymous

F. After ignoring the rule of law for seven years, President Bush finally found a use for the White House Counsel. -Anonymous

G. "Someone please tell me that's not a wombat behind me." -Anonymous

H. I guess that answers the question of whether its better to get a JD or an MBA. -Anonymous

I. Fred (thinking): "That f-n headhunter promised me I would be supporting the President on matters of national importance. G-d D-MN it!" -Anonymous

J. George: Why do you wear that stupid bunny suit?
Bunny: Why do you wear that stupid man suit? -133t

We invite you to vote for the winner after the jump. Poll closes at midnight tomorrow.

[FN1] There were many funny comments, but we exercised a bias in favor of those with a legal connection.

4:12: I disagree. This is a much better bunch of captions than last time. F is very funny, and I'd vote for the Donnie Darko one if it weren't so obscure.

I still like "Things I don't believe in." though it should probably have been phrased differently for a caption contest.

Yeah, "Things I don't believe in" was clearly the best.
That being said, the Darko quote is the best of the nominees.

24 Posted by Caption contests to funny! | Permalink Thursday, April 3, 2008 5:08 PM

The problem with the way these contests are run is that the actual caption is given to begin with. Then you end up with a glut of comments that aren't funny and don't make sense unless you know what the real caption is, which makes the entire contest completely pointless. If you have to know what the picture actually is, that's not a caption contest. It's a snark contest. A TRUE caption contest would present the picture alone, and invite commenters to have at it.

G and J do not have a remote or tangential relationship to a legal issue or reference. G is as funny as a cartoon in the New Yorker (i.e., NOT) and J is merely a tired, old, recycled ad hominem attack that's trotted out day after day by mindless Bush-haters. Yawn. At least the other ones are based on something that people can see varying degrees of humor in. Oh well.

A New Zealand man who called police, claiming he was left with an Australian accent after a wombat raped him has been found guilty of wasting police time.

48-year-old Arthur Cradock was sentenced to 75 hours of community service for calling police last month, asking for urgent assistance because a wombat was raping him.

The orchard worker from the South Island town of Motueka made another call shortly after reassuring the police he was okay, but had been left with some side effects.

"I’ll retract the rape complaint from the wombat, because he's pulled out. Apart from speaking Australian now, I’m pretty all right you know. I did't hurt my bum at all," Cradock told the operator.

Cradock pleaded guilty in court to using a phone for a fictitious purpose.

36 Posted by guest | Permalink Thursday, April 3, 2008 6:10 PM

The same person is writing different responses in favor of "Things I don't believe in," trying to make it look like it has support. But the guise is easy to see through, since that caption is completely lame. Besides, there are at least some reasonable people (a majority in the last election for starters) who believe in the Easter Bunny.
