Defendant Gone Wild: Let’s Go to the Videotape

Here’s an update to a story we’ve covered previously: defendant Victor Wright’s attack upon Assistant U.S. Attorney Carolyn Pokorny (E.D.N.Y.). With a razor. In a Brooklyn courtroom, in the middle of a sentencing hearing.

Fortunately, Wright was subdued by the court reporter and defense counsel (among others). We posted a (profanity-laced) transcript of the proceedings here.

Now we have a copy of the video, which was leaked by someone in the U.S. Marshals Service. It’s not the greatest quality, and it has a certain Charlie Chaplin-esque quality. But it’s still worth checking out, for an eyewitness view of the chaos.

Bonus factoid, from the New York Post: Wright “likely hid the blade in a body cavity.” ICK.

To access the clip, click on the image below, then click again on the video on the right side of the page. Enjoy.

I think the Judge would take FIRST place in the 100M dash, judgng from how quickly he gets off the bench to sprint out of the courtroom at the first sign of trouble.

I also like how the judge then peaks around the corner to see what is happening and despite everything being under control still does not dare come back into the courtroom.

That is his house. He must defend his house.

You gotta love how that judge (someone find out who it was) HAULS ASS out of the courtroom at the first sign of trouble.

This is a much more interesting story of a defendant charging a judge (with two butcher knives). He was shot and killed yesterday. Surprised Lat hasn't linked to it.

Wow, puss judge. Only thing on his mind was obviously saving his own ass.

Judge = typical law school gunner.

All of those douches hide behind their computers and only strike via the list serve.

Um...the mouth is a body cavity...I don't think the problem was that the razor was slobbery

Judge was Frederic Block, and his behavior here is consistent with his general courthouse rep.

If you look closely, the AUSA pulls some serious judo flips on the dude. As she's getting charged, she raises her arms up and then throws him to the ground. And when the officers and the court reporter get involved in pulling apart the fracas, it looks like they were pulling the AUSA off from the top. That was hot.

Stop ridiculing the judge. They have all been instructed to duck or get out as soon as possible.

4:02, maybe the EDNY judges are supposed to fend for themselves, but that's definitely not the case elsewhere.

Indeed, as I understand it, Judge Block has run away and hid in other, less aggravated, courtroom circumstances. Also, David, you would love Carolyn. She is faaaaaaaaaaaaaabulous.

Instructed to duck or get out as soon as possible? So what? Are they going to fire him for not getting out as soon as possible? Grow some balls Judge!!!
