Do you know the Magic Circle link refers to a blog that for some reason links to an article from September as if it's new news? It's not quite a breaking story (and actually is probably outdated).
Third, but as for the UVA article, do they mean top/bottom based on income or class rank? It seems like the former which would have nothing to do with studying.
I knew I should have gone to UVA...damn you Ivy....NOT! I'll take an ivy on my wall over satisfaction, thank you very much...satisfaction is relative and overrated
UVA IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!
News Flash - people from UVa tend to be normal, well-adjusted and relatively attractive. Compare every other law school in the country.
4:53, The grad schools aren't Ivy. That's like saying Northwestern Law Schoool is a "Big 10 Law School." If you didn't go to an Ivy undergrad, you missed your chance.

Wow - does anyone really believe satisfaction is overrated? Of course, it entirely depends on the level of dissatisfaction (i.e., "I make $10k/year less than my peers" is a heckuva lot better than "I bill 500 hours/year more than my peers, and I forgot the last time I say my children.")
The point of the UVA article is not to brag on UVA (4:35 - did you bother to READ the article?), it was simply an analysis by a UVA prof of one class of law students, who also attended UVA. I figure that results would largely be consistent across the top schools, though some schools might skew pro-biglaw or against.
UVA is great, but Ivy is much better.
I would rather rot with my Ivy infested hands and feet than go down south for my legal education.
Viva Harvard, Yale, Penn, Columbia and Cornell.
IVY LEAGUE LAW SCHOOLS all the way baby.
:)

Cornell is not an ivy. Trust me on this.
The article is referring to the top-bottom 25% of the class in terms of statistical distribution, NOT grade wise. It's not saying that the top 15 people in the class grade wise make over a million a year -- it's referring to the top 15 people income wise.
I make more than the judge for whom I clerked (fed; dc dist.) It's always a point of mild prodding when we get together for lunch.

ND's "climb" to number 22?
We used to be at 19, if I recall correctly, and have fallen as far as 28 during O'Hara's tenure.
The survey of UVa grads isn't surpising. The latest fashion in social science research, Hedonics (or Happiness Research if you prefer the U of Chicago Symposium title), finds that the three happiest groups in life are Republicans, social butterflies, and bigots. Somehow, the UVa findings seem a perfect fit.
FYI, "Ivy" trolls: SUNY-Ithaca and Penn State do not count.
I call BS, 6:22. What kind of reputable study would put Republicans and bigots into different groups? That's double counting.
where did kaye file?
Why are UVA grads bigots exactly? Let me guess -- b/c UVA is in the South? Yes, everyone outside of the elite, all-enlightened cities of NYC, Boston, and SF are unsophisticated bigots.
Of course Republicans are bigots! They don't vote for Obama. And Obama is soooooo wonderful and perfect -- if you don't support Obama, you must be a bigot!
Democrats are age-ists b/c they don't for McCain.
What exactly is going on at ATL? Kashmir Hill's posts are frequently dated. For example, the 50 Cent piece is at least 2 days old. I used to rely on ATL for up-to-date gossip, but now I get it from the New York Times!
50 Cent article is priceless:
"The attack on Rosemond was intended to "promote and maintain Yayo and 50 Cent's 'gangsta' image"
Because nothing says "gangsta" like beating up a 14 year old.
i second 6:07...the article in general is too vague and here it seems they are talking about the top and bottom of the class in terms of income distribution, not grades in law school.
5:34pm - you are a twit who should be focused on graduating law school rather than making nonsensical comparisons. I understand your frustration- having attended an Ivy undergrad and barely making into a TTT law school can be frustrating!

They still let you own slaves at UVA as a 1L.
Based on my experience as a minority graduate of UVa Law, I think some of you (9:47 and 6:22) should temper your obvious and misplaced bigotry. You come off like a couple of ignorant aholas.
I’m one of the 1990 UVA Law graduates who participated in the study. (Odd that I first learned of the results from ATL, but whatever. I’m sure the law school will send them along presently, perhaps followed by a contribution envelope.) I loved my time in Charlottesville, got a strong education at a ridiculously low price (tuition & fees were $4,000 my third year – no, that’s not a typo), and am still good friends with many of my classmates, who have gone off and done various things – high school teacher, big or small firm partner, government lawyer (including me), sports agent, high level DOJ official, in-house counsel, stay-at-home parent, and so on. We have fun whenever we get together. And the one thing I’m pretty sure we have discussed *least* in all those (many) years is law school rankings.
