[Ed. note: Some of you noticed the unusually low number of comments today. This was because of a technical problem that allowed only registered commenters, not anonymous “guests,” to post. It appears that the problem has been fixed now (knock on wood). So go ahead, anonymous commenters — heap abuse on us. We missed you!]

Wow - what a house. That thing would probably sell for at least $45M.
Forget the Obama/Osama slip... http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0408/Secrecy_and_propriety_in_Kentucky.html
clinton made 109 million and was on the board for walmart and obama's the elite one?
ATL's new layout is terrible.
I wouldn't be surprised if the web designer disabled anonymous comments on purpose to block the onslaught of criticism.
Wait a minute, 5:40, are you suggesting that Obama is in *any* sense not a member of the elite? (Should I point out that he is a Harvard Law School-educated, multimillionaire Senator and leading presidential candidate?)
Agreed, a week has gone by, and this has not grown on me. The layout sucks.

I think the new layout is far superior, the old site was bush league.
Lat, we realize that you have pride at stake here, not to mention money spent, but you are going to kill this site if you don't go back to the old design. I am totally serial.

With respect to the new design, it wouldn't be so terrible if there was less dead space at the very top of the website. It would be nice not to scroll down so far to get to the actual content.
Try about $200 million.
According to the SF Chronicle:
It would be one of the most expensive houses ever sold in San Francisco - a neoclassical villa with a four-story floating staircase and glass atrium, a facade of French limestone and a roof of 19th century Florentine tile is on the market for $65 million.
Despite the price tag, the home is a mere shell - it doesn't have interior walls, floors or ceilings - and will require more than $10 million to complete. And it will require a buyer with a net worth of just under $1 billion. While any such buyer would surely pay cash, financing the palace with 10 percent down would mean a mortgage and property taxes of around $500,000 a month.
The Gettys, who already expanded their home across two lots, recently spent $8.5 million on a third adjacent home on Broadway--which are all connected.
how did you even notice that non-registered users couldn't comment? the number of comments overall has plummeted. hope you enjoyed your time in the sun, Lat. no more law school roundtables with Richard Posner for you!
RIP ATL
The story about Obama in San Francisco appears to be wrong. While apparently Obama did attend a fundraiser at the home of the Gettys on April 6, the San Francisco Chronicle reports that he made the controversial comments at a different fundraiser later in the day. Not so, see http://www.zombietime.com/obama_visits_billionaires_row/
"[UPDATE: Are you looking for the controversial statement about "bitter" small-town Americans which Obama made at this fundraiser? If so, click here to jump to the audio clip and transcript, which are posted at the bottom of this report.]"
I'm usually a change type of person however, I must reiterate what some of my fellow commenters have stated, this new layout sucks donkey scrotum. It lacks the ease of use and the hometown familiarity of the old blog. Why change Lat, I'm curious? You became a quasi-internet celebrity with the old blog and then you go and just switch up your entire style, heck the articles are even more boring in this format/font. Take a hint from Drudge and just keep it simple and consistent. Sometimes artificial enhancements are a good thing and sometimes your old breast were better. I vote for the old breast.
I like the new format.
let the Obama flameout begin!
The new format sucks. This is what Obama means by "change."
I HATE THE NEW LAYOUT.
ATL has jumped the shark.
Can't stand how everything is so spread out.
lat, move all the text to the right hand side and bring back the old color scheme. the layout sucks.
Lat, realize the error of your ways!
The e-Discovery roundtable is beyond the pale. Stop trying to mainstream/WSJblog-ify this site, or else you'll just give rise to a new, more tawdry legal gossip site to take ATL's place.

We knew ye well in yer' olden days; O! a drop of sense will fare thee well in thine devilish new javascriptin' ways.
I like the new layout. The only thing I don't like is that you can't sign with a funny name until you register it.
You go into these law firms in New York and, like a lot of law firms, the structured finance jobs have been gone now for 6 months. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to antipathy to the new ATL layout as a way to explain their frustrations.

HAHAHA, your law degrees will all be worthless under Sharia law!
OBAMA ACKBAR!
