Duke students are the seedy ones.
if by Duke law students you mean the one student who wrote the article then yes, you are correct.
The Beeb neutral? What a retard. The BBC is the most left-leaning/socialist/communist/anti-american/anti-western/pro anyone who hates the US and the West broadcaster that English speakers can understand.
FWIW, Duke students are also the sticky ones.
Did any of you read the Duke Law link? It's ultimately complimentary of ATL.
As a recent Duke law grad, the comparison to East End's is woefully inapt. Anyone in the area knows ATL is Shooters: sure its dirty and trashy, and you just might see an obese person riding a bull, but a lot of smart people go there, and dammit, you always leave feeling a little better about yourself.
This would never happen at UVA.
Honestly ... it is a bit unAmerican to not be a dog person. In fact ... It's almost ... unHuman. Upon reflection, I don't think I'm joking. Which is interesting. I will ponder this.
5:52 is correct.
At UVA this article would have been pre-screened and rejected, just like the bottom half of its class is at OCI.
In other news, Martha Stewart's dog just died.
In other news, Martha Stewart's dog just died.
I love dogs, but Pit Bulls are dangerous, and any owner of one should be presumed to know this and subject to strict liability. It's not the dog's fault, it was bred that way.
As a Duke Law Student I wouldn't say that we view this website as seedy, crass and sticky, but we all can't get enough of ATL. It's like reading US Weekly without having to feel guilty for it.
5:09, as an Irishman it pains me to say this, but the Beeb is neutral. I know it is hard for Americans to get this, but just because they report BOTH sides of a story and just because America does not always come out looking the best does not make it "left-leaning/socialist/communist/anti-american/anti-western/pro anyone who hates the US and the West". If you have ever watched Jeremy Paxman you will see someone who chews up all sides of political life.
Your post reminds me of a Bill Hicks joke about gun control, and how you would be a "fool and a communist" to think that the level of gun crime and the level of gun ownership is linked. But then, I am sure you probably see Bill Hicks as a communist, and anti-american. How nice to see the world in such easy terms - people who agree with me, good, people who disagree with me must be left-leaning/socialist/communist/anti-american/anti-western/bastards.
In case you are confused on Beeb:
Attack Coulter (Rightwing) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aiHbUplz3k
Attack Michael Howard (Conservative minsiter at time, later to be leader of Conservatives. Slight right) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uwlsd8RAoqI
Attacks Blair (Labour Leader, slight left) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WosZHUfMjE0
Attacks Galloway, (Far left looney)

fwiw, the author of the duke article is one of the best damn guys you'll meet here.
Hunh. The law school that produced Tucker Max is calling someone "seedy, crass and sticky." Nice to see that the arrogance and smug sense of superiority enbodied by Tucker Max is still alive and well at Duke. As they say on Fark, "Duke sucks."
pit bulls aren't BRED to be dangerous, they're TRAINED to be dangerous. the fact that they're not good with other dogs is a breed trait, but a corresponding breed trait is their fierce loyalty to their human "pack." even michael vick's dogs love(d) him 100%.
bad behavior towards people is trained, not bred. if a pit bull bites a person, it's b/c either the dog was badly trained or not trained, or it's b/c the kid was not adequately supervised. ANY dog will bite a kid if it gets annoyed enough; it's the pit bull's bad luck to be a particularly effective biter.
i don't like dogs
The Beeb? The Beeb is as neutral and as unbiased as Fox News is.
10:11, did you even click on the links. How is reporting all facts and questioning all sides the same as Fox. Fox attacks one side and praises and soft balls the other. The BBC questions everything to get the full story.
In the links above the BBC is hostile to those in favor of the war and those against it. No one gets an easy ride.
Gosh 10:34, I was just taking the BBC at its own words.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6763205.stm
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=411846&in_page_id=1770
But hey, I am sure they solved all those problems in a year. Everyone has an agenda. Even the BBC.
Mr. T, the very fact that the organization looked into correcting any perceived or existing bias directly contradicts your argument that it is as neutral as fox. I am sure you can see that. I am not a Fox news basher, but I can see it has a right leaning bias and promotes conservative principles. It deliberately handles guests differently depending on whether they decide they are liberal or conservative. As shown above, the BBC does not.
If it does have a bias, it is not as pronounced as Fox. If it does have a problem at least it is being addressed.
Finally, using the daily mail as some sort of bastion of fair reporting (or even just using it as an example) is pretty useless. The daily mail is proud of its right wing views and attitudes and distain for the BBC.
12:07 is confusing the editorial and opinion shows on Fox News with the strict news reporting. The editorial and opinion is clearly conservative and neoconservative to be more precise. The news reporting however is the most balanced you can find. Places like the BBC and the NYT actively try to slant the news coverage they present as objective with their liberal/left positions. There is a big difference.
I have to agree with 10:23, the author of the Duke article is one of the best guys you will every meet. He is also a big fan of ATL; clearly there has been a misunderstanding.
To clarify the debate, here is what the Duke commentary said in it's entirety:
"AboveTheLaw.com If ATL were a bar, she would not be La Rez, but probably “East End’s Down Under.” Seedy, crass, and sticky. However, despite whatever moral highground we’d all like to pretend we stand on, the temptation to glance at this website is more powerful than any of us. It’s PerezHilton for lawyers, but actually funny & insightful."
Surely these comments are a far cry from "arrogance and a smug sense of superiority". And by the way, the bar that the author compares ATL to happens to be one of his favorite places :)
