Breaking: Apparent Suicide by D.C. Madam, Deborah Jeane Palfrey

Deborah Jeane Palfrey 2 Debra Jean Palfrey DC Madam Above the Law blog.jpgThis just in, from the AP:

Police say a woman they believe to be convicted Washington escort service operator Deborah Jeane Palfrey has committed suicide.

Police in Tarpon Springs, Florida say the body was found in a shed near Palfrey’s mother’s home Thursday morning. There was a suicide note, but police did not disclose its contents.

Palfrey was convicted April 15 by a federal jury of running a prostitution service that catered to members of Washington’s political elite.

She had denied her escort service engaged in prostitution, saying that if any of the women engaged in sex acts for money, they did so without her knowledge.

Update: It seems that some of you aren’t so sure this was a suicide.

Right... like the litigating partner in Michael Clayton committed suicide. Guess some DC bigwigs wanted some secrets to go with her.

First to say she murdered and it was made to look like a suicide. She had dirt on too many powerful people.

Did the Clintons kill her too?

Vitter was just the tip of her rolodex. The poor woman got iced.

The real question: what did Spitzer do to the corpse?

avatar

Agreed, this had to be murder. It's probably either Teddy Kennedy or O.J. Each is experienced. Kennedy probably had the better motive, but O.J. had the better opportunity. I hope the police are talking to them as we speak.

Definitely murdered by a Clinton. Had to be.

To all ye non-believes --
"One of the escort service employees was former University of Maryland, Baltimore County, professor Brandy Britton, who was arrested on prostitution charges in 2006. She committed suicide in January before she was scheduled to go to trial." -- From the NY Times article.

2 suicides now??!

And seriously, considering that suicices are intended to make one last statement of some kind, who would choose a backyard shed? I'm looking forward to spin on this one.

Prostitution is not a victimless crime.

avatar
13 Posted by guest | Permalink Thursday, May 1, 2008 2:09 PM

Oh, please Anyone who wanted to murder her would have done it BEFORE her trial. Yeesh.

avatar
14 Posted by guest | Permalink Thursday, May 1, 2008 2:15 PM

209 - apparently it is victimless until somebody tries to prosecute it, then the bodies pile up. Just saying, not advocating.

Were there any black helicopters flying around the area? I wonder if there were any Knights Templar in her rolodex. Perhaps the commander of the base at Area 51 was a client of hers.
Either that or she facing federal time for a variety of money laundering and racketeering charges, with no hope of parole and likely no points reductions under the guidelines.

Another casualty in America's misguided "war" on prostitution.

Suicide is often described as a selfish act. Considering her past actions, such as selling out her former workers and customers, I guess this fits with that.

Obama did it. He's the new Clinton.

These Clinton accusations are rediculous right-wing crap. I mean, Vince Foster and the other few dozen people who died of very mysterious and suspicious circumstances who were also tied in with the Clintons clearly committed suicide. To imply that she died because she may have possibly arranged for meetings between her escort employees and Bill Clinton is outrageous. I am disgusted with the ALT readership once again.

Is this the same woman who was the secretary of the guy who represented Monica Gooding? It's getting to the point that there are too many public figure sex trade people for me to keep track of.

Don't assume members of Congress just because they're the clients that people have heard of. Word out of that trial was that her rolodex included all sorts of rich DC types. That means big law partners, lobbyists, hedge funds (Carlyle Group is based here, spread that one around!). Lots of people who are a hell of a lot richer than members of Congress had a lot at stake in this. To whoever said "I saw Michael Clayton," you're on the right path.

I think most of the Clinton accusations are tongue-in-cheek.

That said, the Clintons did it.

Yeah, it was a suicide.

And JFK was killed by a lone gunman.

And 9/11 wasn't an inside job.

And there was nothing fishy about that Gulf of Tonkin incident.

And the feds really couldn't anticipate the breach of the levees.

It was clearly a murder for hire by the government becasue only our government is stupid enough to kill her after her trial and not before.

I think you are missing the humor.

People here, while often seriously obnoxious, are typically trying to be funny. This is one of those times.

Or maybe you are a troll. I'm not sure.

Kids at my high school used to kill people that operated prostitution rings all the time. It's no big deal.

I've got my fingers crossed that a FedEx-ed little black book is going to show up at the Times or the Post...

Then I'll believe it was a suicide....and I'll wait with baited breath for the publication of that list...

753: I know this is old news now, but the black book is out there. Besides Vitter and a couple of mid level government functionaries, there were no DC bigwigs.
