McGreevey Divorce Trial Kicks Off
The divorce trial of James and Dina Matos McGreevey gets under way today. Former New Jersey Governor James McGreevey resigned from the governorship in 2004, announcing that he was a “gay American,” who had carried on an affair with a male advisor. The McGreeveys returned to the headlines earlier this year, when a different male aide claimed Mrs. McGreevey had gotten in on some three-way action with him and her husband.
From the New York Post, back in March:
“We called it the Friday Night Special,” [former aide Teddy] Pedersen said. The “intense” escapades, he said, usually began with a “couple of drinks” at a local T.G.I. Friday’s and culminated in “a hard-core consensual sex orgy” between the three of them at McGreevey’s Woodbridge condo.
The three-way action, if true, complicates Dina Matos’s claim that she was not aware of Jim McGreevey’s homosexuality. From WCBS TV:
The first order of business are closed door proceedings concerning their six-year-old daughter. Jim McGreevey is seeking equal custody.Dina Matos McGreevey wants $600,000 as compensation for time she would have spent in the governor’s office had her husband not resigned in disgrace. She claims she was not aware of his homosexuality.
McGreevey is apparently studying to become an Episcopal priest right now, while his wife was recently called upon to offer analysis of the Eliot Spitzer scandal. So she didn’t get to spend those years in the Jersey governor’s office — but now she’s a scandal expert and talking head. Isn’t that worth something?

Was he America's fist gay governor?
Shouldn't there be more coverage of the PH issue? Guest columnists, a roundtable discussion, a task forceetc. Who cares about Mcgreevey?
PH has the chance to save Above the Law, don't let the opportunity pass by.
10:28: AGREED! Lat, get on this!!!!!!!!! The PH story is HUGE!!!!!!!!!
Relax, I'm sure Lat is on this. He spaces out his coverage of such stories to ensure the maximum number of visitors see it.
Expect to see the next PH story once the original story if about to scroll off the front page.
i hate typos
10:57 - Typos?
I don't see any typos in this post. But even if there were some....
IT'S A BLOG, NOT A BRIEF. TYPOS HAPPEN.
Way to go, New Jersey!
TGIFriday's will never be the same.
I don't think you characterized McGreevey's outing quite right. Yes, he did come out as gay, but he also appointed an unqualified man to head the NJ's homeland security in exchange for sexual relations with that man.
The story wasn't that McGreevey was gay, it was that he was exploiting his office for sexual favors.
This is nothing more than another shameless pandering stunt by the Clintons
Guys in my high school used to have hardcore three-way sex orgies all the time. It was no big deal.
Fact: H. Rodgin Cohen wears David Lat pajamas.
Fact: Before he goes to bed Jim Sandman checks his closet for Kashmir Hill.
Fact: Fear is not the only emotion David Lat can smell. He can also detect hope, as in "I hope I don't get profiled on Above The Law by David Lat.”
Fact: A study showed the leading causes of death among partners in the AmLaw 100 are: 1. Heart disease, 2. David Lat, 3. Cancer.
Just to be clear: he is not "studying to become an Episcopal priest." He enrolled in seminary without sponsorship from a Bishop, so he cannot be on track to ordination. He may think he is studying to become a priest, but the church as a matter of policy will not ordain people who graduate seminary without first getting the sponsorship of their Bishop. He also has not been Episcopalian very long, and most Bishops would refuse to ordain him as a prudential matter. As far as the Episcopal Church and the seminary are concerned, he is getting a Masters in Divinity for his own enrichment and/or for a non-ordained vocation.
It is total b.s. that the media allowed McGreevey to change the subject away from his corruption. The guy should be in jail for the rest of his life.
