Ex-Judge of the Day: Stuart DuBose

Judge DuBose.jpgA friend who's working for the summer at the AG's office in Montgomery, AL, had the chance to work on a case in which the Alabama Court of the Judiciary removed Circuit Court Judge Stuart DuBose from the bench. From the Alabama Press-Register:

DuBose, 51, faced 60 ethics charges, stemming from a series of incidents in which the judge verbally abused attorneys and subordinates, attempted to influence fellow judges in matters of personal benefit and made statements that put his impartiality into question.

Sixty charges! And that description understates the insanity of this ex-judge's behavior. More on the alleged antics of this bizarre former jurist, after the jump.

Psychologist Doug McKeown, who interviewed DuBose last week, said the judge showed signs of narcissistic personality disorder, and testified that DuBose used a range of prescription drugs, including stimulants and pain medication, which altered his behavior.

After one proceeding, the judge demanded that the court reporter, Ms. Dunn, not send one of the parties a copy of the trial transcript. Here's what occurred next, according to the complaint:

Shortly after Ms. Dunn left his office, Judge DuBose came to her office and said the following or words to the same effect: "I mean it. Those son of a b*tches are not to get a copy of the transcript. You go and you transcribe this thing for me, and you get it to me, and you give me all your stuff." After Ms. Dunn replied affirmatively, Judge DuBose left, but returned a few seconds later. Sweating and red in the face, he leaned across Ms. Dunn's desk, pointing his finger in her face, and said, "Would you f*ck with me, would you f*ck with me?'"

We're particularly amused by the "sweating and red in the face" line. Ex-judge DuBose is now facing an unrelated charge of carrying a gun while under a restraining order, for which he could serve 10 years in prison if he's convicted.

(Presumably he's pleased about the ruling in Heller....)

When is this TTT blog going to post something about white guys with asian girls? Those pretty, flat faced Korean babes are a great "alternative" to the boring, bitchy spoiled white girls... and pretty good at head too.

4:13 Nichols is back because she is a good writer. I agree with this poster (Heller)

"Between this thread and yesterday's about the capital punishment case, these have been two of the most entertaining days at ATL in quite a while."

"...the judge showed signs of narcissistic personality disorder..."

Since that disorder seems to affect many judges, it may well be classified as an occupational hazard. Perhaps DuBose has a civil case here.

This guy is perfect BigLaw managing partner material: verbal abuse of attorneys and subordinates, influencing peers for personal benefits, no impartial judgment of others (useful to prevent career advancement of others). My advice: switch to private practice, you fit right in...

alabama law is an inbred, genetic mess. I can't understand how anyone could work there, let alone go to school there?
