Legal Eagle Wedding Watch: May’s Couple of the Month

LEWW champagne2.jpgA commenter recently noted that “[t]he LEWW posts are marked with a logo to make it easy to avoid them.” Ouch! In fairness, we note that the same commenter also called us “one [of] the best, funniest, most well-written features on ATL” (thanks!). Whether the sight of the LEWW logo makes your heart sing or sink, the please note that the logo has changed to something a bit more festive.

In other business, we certainly made the right call when we decided to include an extra couple in May’s Couple of the Month poll! The “write-in” candidates were your favorites by far, running away with over 60 percent of the vote.

Sadik-Haskins.jpgCongratulations to Noraan Sadik and Stephen Haskins, ATL’s Legal-Eagle Couple of the Month for May 2008!

We caught up on our wedding-watching backlog this weekend, so stay tuned, LEWW lovers. There’s more coming this week, and it includes some of our readers’ favorite acronyms.

Cheers!

First. She's way too hot for him.

avatar
3 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, June 30, 2008 10:42 AM

Why is this couple even eligible? He's not a lawyer, he's a doctor. I thought the legal eagle couples had to BOTH be lawyers. This is lame. The whole point of the contest is to pick a powerhouse legal couple. Can't do that where only one is a lawyer. And although the woman in this couple is gorgeous and accomplished, her creds are run of the mill.

Re: 10:30 - I'm with someone who is conventionally "hotter" than I am. I like it this way.

When you're with someone hotter than you are, the implication is that you make up for the hotness gap with other desirable attributes (like intelligence, wealth, personality, etc.).

avatar
5 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, June 30, 2008 10:45 AM

10:42 - No, many LEWW couples / winners include non-lawyers. Just one of the people has to be a lawyer.

But I think two lawyers is a "plus factor."

I love when people arbitrarily decide that people who are "hot" only belong with people of similar "hotness." Because your random opinion on physical attractiveness is obviously the key in forming a long lasting relationship.

Call me when your third divorce occurs.

I don't think you can be too restrictive on which couples qualify for a Legal Eagle pairing. Look around people. For the most part, as a profession, we're generally socially atrocious people. I consider it a serious accomplishment for any of us to get married, let alone get married to another attorney. Anything more is just asking too much.

Congrats to the happy couple.

Umm, you nominate yourself by submitting your marriage announcement to the New York Times. If you don't want to be ridiculed, don't announce the marriage to the whole world. Simple.

You losers who are in awe of a place like this, believing this is an incredibly prestigious firm, that you have to go to Yale to work there, etc. are feeding right into the firm's hands. The firm want you to be so honored to work there that you won't mind getting treated like shit. Rather, your mindset should be: This is a horrible place to work, and the firm is lucky that I'm willing to work for it.

I think it's so ironic that something that is supposed to be celebratory, like a wedding announcement column, has been transformed into the opportunity for a bunch of losers locked up in their offices to insult some random couple anonymously.

I think the LEWW should be canceled based solely on the fact that it fails to serve it's intended purpose. You might as well call it the Legal Eagle "vote for a couple to publicly humiliate" watch.

Although some of the commentary is almost funny (almost), overall, it's a waste.
