Louis Posner could have been the inspiration for a Career Alternatives for Attorneys: Pimp and Money Launderer post. The New York tax attorney is in all kinds of trouble with the law, involving strippers, prostitution, drugs, and his nonprofit Voter Rights March.

A lawyer who fervently contested the result of the 2000 presidential election and started an organization advocating voter reform used it to hide profits from another venture, the police say: a strip club that offered more than dancing.The lawyer, Louis Posner, ran the Hot Lap Dance Club out of a fifth-floor loft in Hell’s Kitchen, where the police said the wealthy clientele paid as much as $5,000 for sex with dancers in private rooms.
The authorities raided the loft on Thursday night and arrested Mr. Posner, his wife, Betty, and 19 others on charges that included money laundering and promoting prostitution.
When we read this article, we thought the terrible name Hot Lap Dance Club (NSFW) sounded familiar. Indeed, this is not the club’s first appearance on ATL. It was the source of a Lawsuit of the Day back in March. One of the club’s “wealthy clientele” sued after taking a heel to the eye during a lap dance.
According to the Louis J. Posner, P.C. website, Posner “has an eclectic approach to law, where he views the multitude of interacting legal issues, applies a cost-benefit analysis and considers a client’s business and personal goals.” We wonder if he sees using his knowledge of 501(c)(3) law to launder money as part of his “eclectic approach to the law” .

If it weren't for conservatives like 10:58, the titty-bar industry would be out of business. You think tree-huggers are the ones in there buying lap dances for $50+ a pop? No, they'd be either protesting the exploitation of the women, or they'd be insisting that the dancers' costumes be certified as 100% organic material produced in a fair-trade cooperative in a developing nation.
Plus, lap dances are prostitution. They're just prostitution for guys who are too lame to admit that they have to pay for sex. It doesn't count if your pants stay on!

Any kind of involvement of a prosecutor / member of law enforcement, whether it's an attorney general, governor, U.S. attorney or all of the above, is ultimately about CONTROLLING law enforcement, not a "private matter" as Eliot Spitzer would hope for us to believe. Organized crime had dirt on Spitzer all the while he had control over which crimes where investigated and prosecuted. Posner was also an activist and was the founder of http://www.votermarch.org and was involved with the counter-inaugural demonstrations and the anti-war protests. Considering that they not only closed down the club, but they arrested his wife at home and they seized his bank accounts, sounds like they really had it in for him!

They claim they were rated as the Number One strip club in the world. Glad to see that a lawyer can run a good strip club, but too bad it got shut down.
The money laundering charges sound a bit odd. It seems like the prosecutors like to throw in money laundering in every bust.
