Legal Eagle Wedding Watch 6.1 and 6.8: Beneath the Veil

LEWW champagne2.jpg

It didn't make our final four. But this wedding announcement, featuring an heir to the great Swingline Stapler fortune, gives us an opportunity to note that there is -- who knew? -- more than one way to staple something.

We recently learned that you can rotate a plate on the bottom half of your stapler, thereby causing the hammer to press the staple out instead of in and "pinning" the document together temporarily. Minutes of fun, people!

Back to business. Here are this week's newlywed entrants:

1. Alyson Evans and James Beha II

2. Jennifer Brosnahan and Kevin McIntyre

3. Kristen Eichensehr and Richard Ré

4. Amanda Kosonen and David Schleicher

Read up on these fabulous contestants, after the jump.

Evans-Beha.jpg
1. Alyson Evans and James Beha II
(Buy them a $145 dessert spoon.)

The Case:
- Both the bride and the groom have graduate degrees from NYU. His is in law; hers is in urban planning. Alyson did her undergrad at Davidson; James was cum laude at Princeton.
- James is clerking for Senior Judge Kevin Thomas Duffy of the SDNY. Duffy presided over the trial and convictions of the 1993 World Trade Center bombers.
- James is the great-great-great grandson of Thomas F. Gilroy, who was mayor of New York from 1893 to 1894.

The Case Against:
- The generally classy picture of Alyson is, in LEWW's opinion, not enhanced by the yellowed veil she's wearing. (The article informs us has that this veil has been worn by 19 of the groom's relatives over the years, which admittedly is somewhat of an excuse.)

Brosnahan-McIntyre.jpg
2. Jennifer Brosnahan and Kevin McIntyre
(Buy them a fry pan.)

The Case:
- Jennifer, a deputy general counsel at the U.S. Department of Transportation, is Harvard-Harvard, magna-magna.
- Kevin, a partner in the DC office of Jones Day, was magna at San Diego State and got his JD from Georgetown.

The Case Against:

- At 47, James is 12 years older than Jennifer. But he's a well-preserved 47!

3. Kristen Eichensehr and Richard Ré
(Buy them a coffee server.)

The Case:
- Extremely strong, eerily tandem educational credentials here. Kristen and Richard met as undergrads at Harvard. They both have master's degrees from Cambridge. They both graduated from Yale Law School in May.
- They'll continue to be joined at the hip post-JD, with feeder clerkships on the DC Circuit. She's clerking for Merrick Garland; he's clerking for Brett Kavanaugh. Surely his-n-hers SCOTUS slots are within their reach!
- Richard is from Metairie, Louisiana, the birthplace of Reese Witherspoon. Kristen is from Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the birthplace of Little League baseball.

The Case Against:

- A picture would have been really nice here. The lean write-up gives us their impressive credentials, but no insight into whether you'd want to be seated next to them at dinner.

Kosonen-Schleicher.jpg
4. Amanda Kosonen and David Schleicher
(Buy them a cheese board.)

The Case:
- Amanda and David met at HLS, where they both received JDs and where David is currently a Climenko fellow and lecturer, teaching election law and legal research and writing. He's leaving Harvard soon to become an assistant professor of law at George Mason.
- Amanda is an associate at Shearman & Sterling.

The Case Against:

- David's undergrad school (Dartmouth - awesome) is balanced out somewhat by Amanda's (Simon Fraser University - Canadian).

The Verdict:
Details would be nice, but we've already got more enough to do the math: 2(Harvard) + 2(Cambridge) + 2(YLS) + 2(feeder clerkship) = LEWW champions! Congratulations to the enigmatic Team Eichensehr-Ré!

Does ATL have an anti-Asian bias? Why hasn't it featured this Yale Law (Boies assoc / prof) power couple?

Richard is very nice and takes himself refreshingly unseriously... usually. He is an easy dinner party invite. Kristen I don't know as well, but she seemed to have a little bit of the bitch vibe going on in law school.

@11:43 AM - Wrong week. Besides, they're not even the best couple for next time.

Why is 11:43 obsessed with the Fan wedding? He/she has posted about it at least three times that I have seen in the last two days- at least, I assume it is the same person since no one else gives a shit. A spurned former lover, perhaps?

Why are lawyers fugly (and paralegals hot)?

Inverse correlation b/w hotness / smarts?

Yay Kristen and Richard!

11:54 is probably just mad b/c Kristen disagreed with him (in a characteristically pleasant manner) in class. Both Richard and Kristen are great. (And, although there's no photo so you have to take this on faith, v cute.)

Kristen Eichensehr and Richard Ré-- Talk about smothering! They both went to undergrad, grad, and law school together, and they are clerking on the same court together! I bet they're that couple that looks alike, too. They'll probably end up working at the same firm or teaching at the same school post-clerkship.

I agree with 11:43. Put the Kawamoto/Fan wedding in here! That is one super weird profile. I note that they are "platonic" and that there most romantic movie was "Jurassic Park." Since I know them, I would also add that Mary has lost her engagement ring at least twice.

I think the antique veil is classic and very tasteful. I might have gone with a champagne dress to match, but regardless, using family heirlooms in the wedding is always classy. LEWW, of all places, should also respect the fact that this is a TOTALLY old-money thing to do.

the reason there is no picture is because the camera operator was quite literally attacked by a doberman pinscher at the wedding, leading many to joke that the bitch broke the camera. anyone who thought this referred to kristen and did not laugh immediately was dragged out and made into cat food, please update your article to reflect this unfortunate occurrence.

2=She's hot; WGWAG; Double Harvard; She's hot; JD partner; plus she's hot; EPIC WIN.

3=No Pic; FAIL

4=Both ugly and look annoying; FAIL

Write-in Yale couple = Even uglier; She is on TTTenure TTTrack at TTT AU; FAIL

. . .And, to 11:43 who called an ASSOCIATE at Boise and an ASSISTANT PROF. at AU a "power couple," you are a very nice friend to the couple, but to everyone else you are a stupid troll; EPIC FAIL

That is all.

3:29,
I am no personal fan of the write-in couple. (Some would say just the opposite). With that said, let me list some of the couple's accomplishments. They both went to YLS, which pwns HLS. After a District Court clerkship (CDCA), he began working at Irell. After her 9th Circuit clerkship with Noonan, Fan went directly into an AUSA position in SDCA. She left the USAO for a Gates fellowship at Cambridge. He left Irell to follow her. He figured he would just get a gradiate degree there while waiting for her. As I understand things, the teaching and associate gigs are there first gigs after returning from England. For a first teaching gig, AU is a pretty good place to start. (Many former members of the elect begin teaching with the Black Felowship at Alabama). I do not think that Mr. and Mrs. Kawamoto will set the legal world on fire. Their personalities will limit them in that respect. However, they have accomplished a lot at a very high level. I wish their marraige luck, although I would not have sex with either of them. Hi Ned!

I am an Eichensehr-Re fan, personally.
11:54, If you think that Kristen has a bitch vibe, you must think downright awful things about other people - she was one of the most down-to-earth people at YLS. Very few people are so gracious after having achieved so much.
And 12:21, since when did going to the top schools together become "smothering?" Most couples WISH that they could go to top schools together rather than being forced to make individual sacrifices or be apart. "Smothering" - that is just stupid.
Kristen and Richard are each great and great together.
