Morning Docket: 07.21.08
* With mergers and merger rumors galore, the Philly Inquirer asks "how large does a law firm need to be?" [Philadelphia Inquirer]
* It's a new era. The Washington Post has started a new "green section" for news on the environment. [Washington Post]
... * and one of its first articles is on the EPA's warning that global warming is a major threat to humans. So WP asks why the agency decided not to regulate greenhouse gas emissions after the 2007 Supreme Court ruling on the Clean Air Act. [Washington Post]
* Polish police have found a way to deal with illegal street racing. They stepped in to organize the races. [New York Times]
* Beijing institutes special traffic rules to combat pollution in the lead-up to the Olympics. No more traffic jams! Maybe L.A. should sit up and take notice. [Associated Press]
* A victory for antiabortion forces: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit lifted an injunction against a mandatory script for South Dakota doctors.
[Washington Post]
* We got scooped! We hear Lat is relocating to NYC. [BLT: The Blog of Legal Times; Legal Blog Watch; ABA Journal]

Philly firms suck. Especially Flaster Greenberg and Lavin, Coleman, Ricci, Finerelli & Grey. Pepper sucks too.
I wonder how many trees got taken out to make the extra paper for the "green section" of the Post?
Philly = TTT
Congratulations to Lat on his promotion. Please don't substitute your posts with SEN posts. Her articles were so bad they dissuade people from reading ATL.
Is that Jackie Chan?
With Supreme Court bobbleheads in the background?
Any advice for which firms I should just cut right off my on-campus interview list?
Obviously the firms that are laying off attorneys should be cut, but what firms typically have miserable/ugly attorneys?
Kash, you're the best.
Like the shirt.
Lat, as Yale Law, 9th Circuit clerk, WLRK associate, and AUSA has unparalleled credentials and a matchless network. Kash and the rest of the gang you've assembled are great, of course, but . . .
David, we need you to keep putting the smackdown on law firms, law schools, and others who step out of line. I'm still send all of my tips to you. Don't stay away for too long- keep coming back to break big news.
Love,
A huge ATL/Lat fan
David, if that's a recent picture, congrats. Looks like the diet has worked.
Lat's current Facebook status:
"David lost another pound last week. Total weight loss since starting Project Truman Show (Google it if you're not familiar): 16 pounds.."
Congrats on the promotion, David. (And these nifty little comment counters on the right; will commenters start referring to each other as # 13, etc., I wonder? That aside, I still hate the new format).
This blog needs a fresh voice.
SEN is not that fresh voice.
Congrats to Lat on the promotion. And on the diet - he is looking good in that picture.
The bobbleheads in the background are a nice touch, but when will they start making a David Lat bobblehead?
Seriously. If they sold David Lat bobbleheads, I'd buy one and leave it on the managing partner's desk in the middle of the night.
"He sees you when you're sleeping; he knows when you're awake. He knows if you've been bad or good so be good for goodness' sake. . . ."
Maybe Lat has been dieting to get in shape for his bobblehead?
Woudn't want to be immortalized in a pudgy bobblehead.
We'll miss having you full-time, Lat. (And as others have noted, you are looking good--congratulations.)
Also looking good is Lat's new apartment in NYC:

congrats lat
Congrats to Lat on the promotion....and to the BigLaw partners who are happy to have Lat out of their hair...but boohoo for the loyal ATL readers.
A large part of the reason many of us read this site--and UTR before this--is David Lat. Not just for his writing and insight, but because we trust him. I remember reading ATL a year or so ago and noticing that there were no privacy policies/user terms of services. And yet people sent tips in, posted comments, and the like. Why? Because something about Lat made them trust that he wouldn't out them to their bosses, publish their IPs, etc. Maybe people felt this way because of Lat's track record with UTR, maybe it is the result of an impressive resume, maybe it is just something about him.
This new editor will have to work to earn and establish the trust of the ATL readership if ATL is going to continue to thrive.
Congrats Lat, and thanks for all the raises. Don't be a stranger, ya hear?
I want a Lat bobblehead.
No bobbleheads, but other Lat-themed merchandise:

Congrats on the promotion and the apartment, Lat!
Wow, what kind of salaries do bloggers make so they can afford a $1.5 million condo?
It's probably the cash Lat saved while at Wachtell.
@guest in comment #2 - the beauty of the washington post's new green section - is it's online only - so no trees were harmed or hurt to create it.
