Inclulde the part-time/evening students in the ranking. It is the only way to stop the gaming of the system. The law school's with these programs need to suck it up and take the hit in the rankings.

I attended Law School in the evening division because I couldn't get into the day program. I worked a full time job to support myself, got on the law review, graduated with honors, and now work at BIGLAW where I office next to an Ivy league grad. I guess I "gamed" the system too? But then, the Ivy league guy's dad is a big swinging dick. So he "gamed" the system to get into Ivy as well.

Funny that Leiter, the world's biggest anti-USNWR rankings troll, Solove, a prof at GW, are criticizing the move to count PT students.

Maybe it's because someone is trolling for the LeiTTTer report rankings?

Maybe someone is aware the if PT students are counted, their law school will plummet to the low 20s?

these guys are shameless. academics are generally pathetic, hyper-intelligent bratty children at best.

7:42, be careful. As you know, you are only two subpoenas away from being outed.

Transfers / part-time students should be counted. Enough with the gaming of the system.

7:48- thanks for the heads up
I had forgotten that those guys had been training at the KGB school of civil rights over in the 4th Reich.

At first I was really excited about Leiter's alternative rankings, but now I couldn't give a flying frak about USNWR or Leiter. He turned out to be just as big a blowhard as most other lawprof blawggers.

The rankings should be abolished. Just because some idiot did well on an LSAT and someone else busted their balls earning degrees and accolades but doesn't "look" good enough for a statistic that will keep a school highly "ranked" is pathetic. These "top ranked" schools foster an attitude that once you're in, you don't have to work hard anymore because your path is set. Meanwhile, there are idiots from Harvard who don't even know what laches means.

The word 'laches' is so TTT.

So counting PT students helps the gaming of the system...but it doesn't help future students. So what if Georgetown drops to 20? Are employers really going to stop recruiting there? Are the students there really going to experience a noticeable decline in job opportunities?

And as a former PT student who took a couple classes in the day time, I can tell you, the PT students, on average, were much smarter, more informed classmates than the FT students. LSATs might measure one's likelihood of individual success, but I'd rather have someone with interesting work experience in my classes than some gunner who just recites treatises in response to everything.

I totally agree with Solove and Leiter. US News needs to focus on employability. This proposal is just a stupid band aid to avoid addressing the real problems with the rankings.

10:16 you probably mean FSB (not KGB), but I can understand how your World History course might not have gotten to that part of the book yet.

Lat, this blog has been taken over by high school students and standardized testing losers. Your advertisers can't be happy with that demographic.

Every now and then a part time or evening student is exceptional, indistinguishable in every way from a full time student, but that is not the norm. Even a blind squirrel occasiionally finds an acorn, as Darrell Royal was fond of saying. That some of the above commentators think a single case of that sort supports a claim about part time and evening students generally, shows only that they do not understand the concept of sample bias. Whenever someone tells you how smart he is, move on to the next interview.
