Scrabulous, RIP
Several of you brought this sad news to our attention, including one tipster who wrote: “It’s gone! And I had a friggin bingo to put down.”
But we were already aware of the demise of Scrabulous. When we tried to access our games this morning, we received this message: “Scrabulous is disabled for US and Canadian users until further notice. If you would like to stay informed about developments in this matter, please click here.”
Sigh. Those pesky intellectual-property laws….
P.S. Kash is lucky. She reports that she still has Scrabulous access over in Hong Kong.

First to say, who cares?
You've got to ask yourself one question about this meaningless, gay word-matching video game that's been sued for intellectual property infringement: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?
Hasbro could have avoided the soon to be public relations nightmare by simply licensing the game to the Indian guys.
Hasbro = TTT
Oh boo hoo, we can't free ride on someone else's goodwill anymore. Waaaaaaaaaaah!
I love Scrabulous... judging from the number of my classmates who played it religiously during class, I think it had a significant impact on my GPA.
5: no kidding. I'm hoping that someone will revive it before us 1Ls have to face classes full of gunners, intent on using that time to learn Torts or Ks.
@2 - please stop. you're not funny.
6 - there is plenty of other stuff to do while passing time in class. unless you are going to american, i may be wrong but i think are the ones that stopped internet connections in class, then you are fine.
in any event make sure to sit behind a hottie!
also gunners are nothing to be afraid of as most shut up after first semester grades are posted. just do your thing and be prepared for final...
Yea, Clint, you suck.
Given that Scrabulous has been "disabled" and not "disbanded" or "dissolved," the "RIP" heading is misleading, particularly since ATL heroine-turned-globetrotter Kash can access it in Hong Kong, or wherever she's padding her resume.
I used to like Scrabulous until I realized that people would cheat by using websites that have programs that calculate the optimal play with the letters you have.
Scrabble must be played face to face.
8: My school’s decision to disable internet access in the classroom was widely publicized on this page only a few months ago. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the least nervous, how nervous should I be?
Stupid copyright laws. They've never done anything good for anyone ever.
It's not like people were playing scrabulous in class instead of going out and buying scrabble and playing that in class...
Just as the existence of Scrabulous harmed Hasbro in no way, the forced shut down of Scrabulous will benefit Hasbro in no way.
Senseless.
12 - hard to say because alot depends on the person/class etc. if you cannot, or will not, listen to the lecture/seminar and still actually go to class then you are in trouble. what the hell are you going to do!
on the other hand maybe it will force you to do well and thus garner a biglaw job and then cause you to hate yourself.....
if only the scrabulous peeps weren't so greedy in their early settlement talks with hasbro. they should have known that this day would come.
#3, do you really think Hasbro didn't try to negotiate a license? For whatever reason, the parties couldn't agree to terms.
#13, Hasbro is harmed as its own facebook app isn't nearly as popular as Scrabulous's.
scrabulous is still accessible in the UK as well
Lat, remember when you facebooked that psychopath from Arizona and then used screenshots of her profile on ATL? Remember how you were then banned from facebook?
Just sayin....
Lat, this is good timing for you, given that you'll have to schlep to work at an office again like a normal person for your new job.
I'm not worried, the students in my classes will still be able to waste their class time using Google Chat / staring at their own Facebook profiles for some reason / shopping for shoes and bikinis
Hasbro's Scrabble Facebook app is still in beta. Without the popularity of Scrabulous, it would never have bothered creating it. It sucks, also.
If you access Facebook through a proxy server that isn't based in the U.S. or Canada (like kproxy.com), then you can still access Scrabulous. It may be a little too much the average person, but anyone obsessed can still get that fix.
Scrabulous access AND earning pounds! I knew there was something to make up for London's shitty Mexican food and rain.
