The Sapphic Summers: Lindquist & Vennum Responds
Not to us, but to the City Pages of Minneapolis. And it's not much of a response.
(In case you missed yesterday's posts about the drunken girl-on-girl kiss that got two summer associates fired from Lindquist & Vennum, see here and here.)
From the City Pages blog, The Blotter:
Nancy Vollertsen, a partner at Lindquist & Vennum, returned our call. Here's what she had to say:"We have a great summer program and we don't make employment decisions on a discriminatory basis."
Beyond that, she declined to either confirm or deny what has been written about the alleged firings, citing the privacy of the employees.
We can see why they've put Vollertsen in charge. From her firm bio:
Chair of Lindquist & Vennum's Employment Law Practice Group, Nancy practices primarily in the area of labor and employment law....
Nancy provides counseling to employers on prevention and defense of employment claims and litigation, employment termination, discipline and discharge issues, interpretation and application of various employment laws, and defense of employment discrimination claims.

And the saga continues . . .
First (after deletions)?
First!
I heard Isiah Thomas advised this partner how to handle the media
First!!!
I did not know there were law firms in Fly Over States. I thought it was all solo practice. Hmmmm, interesting.
Holy crap I was first!

This firm is F'd.
You're only allowed to lesbian kissing if you're a lesbian?? what's up with that?
the chick in the pic looks like she knows a lesbian or two.
There are law firms outside of NYC?!
First!
of course she is listed as working on "discipline and discharge issues"
Second!
Vennum is probably my favorite comic book character of all time.
20, you are wrong.
First!!! HAHAHAHA!
Should I go to Rutgers-Camden or Brooklyn?
This site seems to be following the Bill Hick's prediction on where advertising & media would really like to go. Check it out:

Handsome woman.
first ... to say this woman saw the lesbian action, got jealous, and spear-headed the whole thing .. she looka-lika man!
Camden if you want to work in Philly. Brooklyn if you want to work in NYC. Both have primarily regional appeal, you would have to do top 5-10% in your class + law review to have job prospects outside your region.
19: all else being equal, i'd go with brooklyn. while i know a couple biglaw attorneys from brooklyn, i know 0 from rutgers.
Camden if you'll get in-state tuition.
Brooklyn if $$$ is equal.
Don't live a dillusion live thinking you'll get a big-law job. Very few from that level of law schools gets one. I'm a TTT grad and damn lucky to be in big law. Many of my classmates that graduate high are making $60,000 a year working for government.

19, 23-26 = Nancy Vollertsen
can it be more obvious?
Brooklyn grads actually do surprisingly well getting EDNY clerkships because several judges in the EDNY are former Brooklyn deans/profs, which can open the door to Biglaw gigs afterward.
I agree with 3:40.
This thread has been hijacked by Nancy Vollertsen!!!
She is a brilliant, cunning woman.....
3:30 and 3:41 are both correct.

People in my high school used to make up posts to bump pictures of girls kissing all the time, it was no big deal.
What are this firm's PPP (profits per paralegal)?
Western New England School of Law -- Truth.
Go on and wish that Brad Pitt would come along, but I prefer Madonna in a lacy thong....

I summered at Lindquist & Vennum and made $7.50 an hour, it was no big deal.

ENOUGH already about the two chicks kissing. ATL acts like it doesn't happen all the time. I mean really.....
NEXT!
I would go with Apex Tech over Rutgers or Brooklyn.
Western New England snipes your ass Brooklyn. Snipes.
Whoa, 37. You can NEVER have enough chicks kissing. Don't even joke about such things. More pictures, please!
AU is the TTTiest law school ever.
I think the reason AU's reputation is so poor is related to three things: (1) according to U.S. News and World Report, AU is the lowest ranking law school on the east coast; (2) according to the ABA's Standing Committee on Law School Accredidation, as of February 2008, AU's accrediation has been suspended; and (3) according to most commenters on this site, no AU student would accept a slot at AU if he/she also was accepted to GULC, GW, Catholic, Maryland, Baltimore, GMU, UDC, Howard, or any other area-school.
Sincerely,
Concerned AU alumni
41 / 42,
Good point. I almost forgot how shittty AU is.
GW, c/o 2009
Brooklyn places more in Biglaw than American, though they both are pretty bad.
Discriminatory? HA. If all this is true, they were fired for making out, not being lesbians.
What I can't understand is why is this type of behavior not encouraged??? I mean, two cute summers KISSED and people saw it!!!! That should be enough for immediate promotion to partner. Hell, women shouldn't even have to take the bar exam if they're willing to make out with each other in front of the other examiners. Just pass them and send everyone the video. Jesus people, get a grip.
