The Sapphic Summers: Lindquist & Vennum Responds

Marissa Cooper Alex The OC girl girls lesbian kiss.jpgNot to us, but to the City Pages of Minneapolis. And it’s not much of a response.

(In case you missed yesterday’s posts about the drunken girl-on-girl kiss that got two summer associates fired from Lindquist & Vennum, see here and here.)

From the City Pages blog, The Blotter:

Nancy Vollertsen, a partner at Lindquist & Vennum, returned our call. Here’s what she had to say:

“We have a great summer program and we don’t make employment decisions on a discriminatory basis.”

Beyond that, she declined to either confirm or deny what has been written about the alleged firings, citing the privacy of the employees.

We can see why they’ve put Vollertsen in charge. From her firm bio:

Nancy Vollertsen Nancy B Vollertsen Lindquist Vennum.jpgChair of Lindquist & Vennum’s Employment Law Practice Group, Nancy practices primarily in the area of labor and employment law….

Nancy provides counseling to employers on prevention and defense of employment claims and litigation, employment termination, discipline and discharge issues, interpretation and application of various employment laws, and defense of employment discrimination claims.

For more, see the full City Pages post over here.

Camden if you want to work in Philly. Brooklyn if you want to work in NYC. Both have primarily regional appeal, you would have to do top 5-10% in your class + law review to have job prospects outside your region.

19: all else being equal, i'd go with brooklyn. while i know a couple biglaw attorneys from brooklyn, i know 0 from rutgers.

Camden if you'll get in-state tuition.

Brooklyn if $$$ is equal.

Don't live a dillusion live thinking you'll get a big-law job. Very few from that level of law schools gets one. I'm a TTT grad and damn lucky to be in big law. Many of my classmates that graduate high are making $60,000 a year working for government.

19, 23-26 = Nancy Vollertsen

can it be more obvious?

28 Posted by guest | Permalink Thursday, July 24, 2008 3:41 PM

Brooklyn grads actually do surprisingly well getting EDNY clerkships because several judges in the EDNY are former Brooklyn deans/profs, which can open the door to Biglaw gigs afterward.

AU is the TTTiest law school ever.

avatar
42 Posted by guest | Permalink Thursday, July 24, 2008 8:04 PM

I think the reason AU's reputation is so poor is related to three things: (1) according to U.S. News and World Report, AU is the lowest ranking law school on the east coast; (2) according to the ABA's Standing Committee on Law School Accredidation, as of February 2008, AU's accrediation has been suspended; and (3) according to most commenters on this site, no AU student would accept a slot at AU if he/she also was accepted to GULC, GW, Catholic, Maryland, Baltimore, GMU, UDC, Howard, or any other area-school.

Sincerely,
Concerned AU alumni

What I can't understand is why is this type of behavior not encouraged??? I mean, two cute summers KISSED and people saw it!!!! That should be enough for immediate promotion to partner. Hell, women shouldn't even have to take the bar exam if they're willing to make out with each other in front of the other examiners. Just pass them and send everyone the video. Jesus people, get a grip.
