ATL Idol: The Top Two
Thanks to everyone who voted in Round 2 of ATL Idol, the “reality blogging” contest that will determine the next editor of Above the Law. The polls closed at noon. Once again, voter turnout was excellent, with over 2,200 votes cast (an increase from the 1,800 ballots cast in Round 1).
The results were interesting. In Round 1, the order of finish was (1) Marin, (2) Sophist, (3) Alex, and (4) Frolic & Detour. This time around, everyone traded places:

You never can tell what will happen each week in ATL Idol. That’s what makes the contest so exciting and fun.
Anyway, congratulations to SOPHIST and FROLIC AND DETOUR, your two finalists. One of them will be the ATL Idol, the next editor of Above the Law. We bid goodbye to MARIN and ALEX (who have been invited to pen farewell posts if they like, a la EXLEY).
Here’s what to expect from your ATL Idols this week:
And there may also be some surprise posts — but we’re not going to tell you about them, ‘cause then they wouldn’t be a surprise.
Check back soon, to read more from your fabulous Idols, and to see how the contest will end!

forrest!
Sophist was not second, he/she was FIRST.
Worst idea ever.
Suggestion for Lat: Before voting this week, could you do a post collecting links to all of the prior F&D and Sophist posts? It is hard to find the prior posts (clicking on their name doesn't pull up all of them, I have found). It would be helpful if we could see everything the candidates published before making up our minds.
Alternatively, instead of voting on substance, we could just vote based on negative attack ads - you know, one is old and irrelevant and wants to start a 1,000-year war, while the other is just a celebrity who doesn't have the experience to lead.
I think David is hoarding all of the good material for himself as his swan song as EIC. No one is going to like the contestants much (if at all) until we can see what they can do with really juicy material. If they can't hit one out of the park with one of Lat's good scoops, then they shouldn't be EIC. The ability to get and post a worthy scoop will show the reading audience that he/she is scoop-worthy.
Ah, Marin. Time to go back through the wardrobe, to the land that time and the law forgot. Good riddance!
Too bad. Alex was actually the best poster this week!
Great idea #5.
FIRST!!!!!!
Marin = pwned. Good riddance. Buh-bye. Here's hoping that the last two don't lay eggs again this week.

at least sophist is decent...
Too bad F&D didn't actually earn her spot in the finals.
14: but it's not like the losers can put it on their resume that they made the final, or get any nice parting gifts, or anything.
The trolletariat have spoken. Deal with it, honey.
Marin: “I'm BaaAAAAAAAACCKK”.

ALT: “No, you’re naaaaaaaaaattt.”
8, I agree, I liked Alex's posts last week and voted for him.
Perhaps he will post a stunning farewell piece that causes everyone to wail that they erred in voting off the two best, Alex and Exley, and can't they please have another chance to right the wrong.
Alex will be missed.
"The trolletariat have spoken."
Nice.
16, what is ALT? "Above Law, The," or perhaps just another NFWS abbreviation of ATL created by Arnie Becker?
20, I think ALT stands for A Loser Troll.
Last weeks vote was RIGGED (let's just say a certain user's facebook activity was involved). Sophist should have won by a larger margin.
PS - SOPHIST RULES!
Dear 22:
Did Marin solict votes through her facebook page?

Sad to see Alex go as well.
At least we are left with two decent finalists although I think we can safely call Sophist the huge favorite at this point (but then we all saw how good that was for the French relay team!).
25: it remains to be seen what the Marinara do. Hopefully they will just leave, but....
19: the term "trolletariat" was used by Tom Goldstein in his judge's commentary last week. Whether he coined the phrase or picked it up somewhere else, I don't know. But I like it.
In fairness, choosing "popularity contest with anonymous online voting" as the format was tantamount to piling gold coins under the bridge.
FU ATL IDOL!!!!
The problem here is that ATL commenters hate everyone, known or unknown, who is not Lat or Kash. No one knows how Kash slipped through without inciting the violent roasting ATL commenters have launched at every other person who has tried to post on ATL. It was a fluke, and it is not likely to happen again. So Lat, either stay, or promote Kash. Anything else is sheer madness.
Kash did not "slip through". Rather, she struck the right tone and had the right content for this site from day-one, and has consistently confirmed that in post-after-post.
Plus, Kash is age-appropriate (if Marin is “29” [look at the posted pictures of her hand with Perry the J-dog] then I am posting this comment from Mars.
29 hits the nail on the head (although I think Sophist is pretty cool).
Dumb question, what is happening with Lat? Is he just taking on an owner/managerial role or what? He won't be posting anymore? Can someone explain or provide a link? Thanks.
Dear 31;

Thanks 32.
Lat, good luck in your future endeavors. I hope you continue to contribute to ATL on a regular basis. In addition to comic relief, this blog has produced a level of BIGLAW transparency that was sorely needed.
