I have to say, Carney runs a pretty excellent site over there at Dealbreaker. He's smart and Dealbreaker is all over the Wall Street beat.

That's one of the webs truly underrated websites

Is it just me or is it not ironic that Ann Althouse is judging ATL Idol. Have you read her blog (e.g., the link in this post)? It's SO incredibly poorly written that it makes one wonder how this woman became a law professor, or even a known blogger.

Can we discuss Russia for a moment? 100% of women professionals claim to have been sexually harrassed by their male superiors. Even the ugly ones.

In Soviet Russia, SKIRT CHASE YOU!

WTF? Please tell me the Russian judge is going to get reversed in blistering fashion! That is horrendous. First, it shows a view of sexual harassment that puts Russia decades (if not centuries) behind the civilized world. Second, if Russia has sexual harassment laws (and it appears to, since 2 people have won SH cases), the judge just gave the law the finger in overt terms.

Not to mention the shocking and depressing statistics from the survey. Could those numbers really be representative?

What a TTT country Russia has become. Why would anyone invest somewhere with zippo rule of law? BP is finding out that they were only invited in to help them build up infrastructure. Now, the Russians are saying "thanks" by forcing the BP side of the joint venture out. Lesson learned.

BREAKING:

Judge halverson has sued the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline and prosecutor Nash-Holms with a fed ct. civil rights suit under 42 USC` 1982 and an ex-parte request for emergency restraining order to halt the disciplinary proceedings. The hearing is tomorrow morning at 10:00 am.

The comission was served by Halverson counsel in the Federal civil rights case during the hearing at about 3:45 pm today.

A request to halt the procedings is also pending before te NV Supremes, who have taken no action yet.

The computer tech that Halverson asked to search for emails on the court computer system testified that he went to the cops because Halverson told him to disbelieve anything he read about her in the press, then lifted up her blouse and asked the tech if he could see any urine stains on it. The tech testified that he thought it was “real strange”.

As a Russian immigrant, I can assure you that Soviet Russia has always been that bad and worse. Even among the intelligencia, "rape" meant "violent stranger rape," sexual harassment was undefined, and violence was par for the course. Rule of law was nonexistent, might made right, and the cost of human life was lower than Americans can imagine. That judge is much more likely to be promoted than reversed.

Having lived in Russia for the first 16 of my 29 years, I can assure you that Russia has always been TTT. 10 is not exaggerating whatsoever.

I had a Russian housemate for a while. (He had a computer start-up.)

He once talked me into an evening out with some aeroflot, stewardesses.

The better looking ones had cute little mustaches.

His mom and dad came to visit, his mother had a scarf over her head even indoors, and she dropped food all over the floor (probably for the chickens to clean up—I didn’t have the heart to tell her that there were no chickens in Lafayette, CA. What am I saying she didn't speak english anyway.)

the issue of birthrate is a pretty big deal in russia. for the second year in a row, the city of ulyanovsk has been sponsoring a contest where women who would give birth on june 12 would get a cash prize (not more than 200-300 usd). This prompted hundreds of women to convince doctors to induce labor. normally only one or two children are born per week in that city.

also sexual harassment and rape are both deplorable ugly acts and the following statement is no way trying to justify them, but a lot of russian women do use or know how to use their sexuality to advance themselves personally and professionally.
But the statistics quoted in the article are from a study, probably a poorly conducted one or a biased one. No one has ever tried to study the issue seriously in Russia, so while the rates are probably high they are not 100%
