Supreme Court Clerk Hiring Watch: Anyone Home?
The start of the new Supreme Court Term is still over a month away. The nine robed ones are all over the world — teaching in Europe, chilling in New Hampshire, and otherwise getting away from One First Street.
So things have been relatively quiet on the Supreme Court clerk hiring front. There are no new names over at the Clerkship Notification Blog or at Wikipedia (which also seems to be missing a few names that we reported last month).
But there has been some movement. We hear that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg recently hired David Newman (Yale 2006 / Katzmann / Rakoff (S.D.N.Y.)) as her second law clerk for October Term 2010. (RBG has already completed her OT 2009 hiring.)
Have other justices interrupted their summer vacations to do some clerk hiring? If you’re aware of some news not previously reported in these pages, please share what you know, by email (subject line: “Supreme Court clerk hiring”).
If you’re interested, check out the updated list of Supreme Court clerks for OT 2009 and OT 2010 (with David Newman added), after the jump.
Please note that these are the clerks for October Term 2009 (i.e., the 2009-2010 judicial year). If you’re looking for a list of the October Term 2008 clerks, who have already reported to work at the Court, click here.

First!
It would be interesting to also see which undergrad the clerks attended. Presumably mostly Harvard or Yale but hard to tel without a full list.
Go GW!
Have any Quinnipiac grads ever served as Supreme clerks? Rumor here has it that one did a few years ago, but I can't find anything on him(her). Thanks
When are you going to cover the bonuses for the outgoing OT'07 clerks? Most of them are signing firm deals right now (except for the ones who are working on the McCain/Obama campaigns) and rumor has it that the market bonuses have gone up yet again. I guess firms view it as a long-term investment.
How does SCOTUS clerking work if a justice dies/retires? Hypothetically, let's say Ginsburg retires at the end of the '08-'09 term because Barack Obama wins. What happens to her '09-'10 clerks? Is her replacement stuck with them? Are they stuck with her '10-'11 clerks as well?
Or is this the sort of game where once you get a SCOTUS clerkship all you do is pray day and night your justice doesn't kick the bucket before you get there?
Hi, any updates on this front? Has Justice Roberts finished hiring?
