Legal Eagle Wedding Watch 9.21: I’ll Meltdown With You
Even as the national economy teeters on the brink of collapse, Wall Street’s elite continue to flock to the altar. Click here, here, and here, and imagine what this month has been like for these people. Getting married is stressful enough; we can’t imagine doing it while at the center of a financial meltdown.
In other random New York observations, both of the city’s baseball stadiums will close their doors this fall. Last Sunday’s final game in Yankee Stadium was celebrated with a Sports Illustrated cover and wall-to-wall coverage on ESPN. This Sunday’s game could be the last in Shea Stadium, and the New York Times marks the occasion with a gripping piece on how pilots landing at La Guardia won’t be able to use the place as a landmark anymore.
Here are this week’s couples:
1. Jean Park and Albert Cho
More about our finalists, after the jump.

1. Jean Park and Albert Cho
(Buy them a garment steamer.)
The Case:
- This unsmiling couple sports undergrad degrees from Cornell (her) and Brown (him, magna) and JDs from Brooklyn Law School (her) and Cornell (him). Jean also has a master’s in public health from Yale.
- The groom is a partner at Kirkland & Ellis. And he looks even grimmer on his website bio than he does here.
The Case Against:
- Jean is clerking, which always gets LEWW’s attention. Unfortunately, the clerkship is for a lowly magistrate judge, so never mind.

2. Trinity Jackman and Joshua Harlan
(No gifts, please; they’re Canadian.)
The Case:
- How glamorous is this bride? She’s an archaeologist, and her name is Trinity Olivia Jackman. Very National Treasure. She graduated from Columbia and has a Ph.D. in classical archaeology from Stanford. Also, her father is a former lieutenant governor of Ontario.
- The groom, by contrast, is a very unglamorous investment manager for a pension fund. He did, however, graduate summa from Harvard and earn a JD from Yale and a master’s from Oxford. So he’s got that going for him. Which is nice.
The Case Against:
- Their heads are too far apart in this picture; it looks like they were just introduced and she’s kind of annoyed that she’s being photographed with this dweeb. But here’s another photo of them hanging out with a bunch of horsey-looking socialites in Southampton.
3. Edward Pierce and Robert Saltzman
The Case:
- Two JDs for this fabulously fifty same-sex couple. They met (many years ago, we assume) at Harvard Law School. Ed graduated from Yale and has a master’s from Brown; Rob graduated from Dartmouth.
- They got married in the home of their friend, David. Another friend, also named David, performed the ceremony, assisted by another friend, also named David.
- Ed is retired from GeoCities, where he was general counsel. Rob is an associate dean at USC’s Gould School of Law. He looks like the kind of avuncular-but-hip administrator who is wildly popular with students.
The Case Against:
- USC lost some big football game last night. Ed and Rob probably don’t care.
The Verdict:
- We don’t usually award the top prize to old people, but Team Pierce-Saltzman takes the crown this week based on its two HLS degrees and distance from the New York financial community. Congratulations!

First to say AhhhhCHOOOOOO!!!
God bless you.
who cares.
No picture of couple No. 3? Is it because they're gay and can't marry?
Cheer up Mr. Cho, its not so bad. At least you are Elie Mystal.
Couple number 1 features a Brooklyn Law graduate. Shocking that Laurie would consider inclusion of such a person, considering that only Harvard and Yale clowns make it on this page (see couple #2, #3).
Couple #2: met at MIA?? Weird.
%, Laurie ocassionally includes some of the lesser ivies like Brown and Penn State.
I hate these.
Cho Chong Ching? Isn't number 1 a victim of a stealth UVA layoff?
No 3 has the ole "Brown Eye Masters" He's a keeper.
Suck it, Mystal.
Legal Eagle Wedding Watch is gay.
No ultra prestigious GULC degrees this week? Boo!
god damn queers...I bet one is just an old queen
U Penn has a great shot at the National Title now that South Carolina lost last night.
JT wants to know why all the hating on gay old queens from GULC?

I refuse to send tips to ATL anymore because they don't publish stories about people they don't wish to piss off.
No mention that number 2 met on the way to Art Basel in Miami Beach?
A winner w/o a photo? Denied.
A winner w/o a photo? Denied.
UPenn and GULC to be wed in San Francisco. Not sure which one is the bride
gaylion
No love for the magistrate judges ... it's a pity.
trinity jackman = HOT
I cheer for more Brooklyn Law grads on LEWW!
I don't think Laurie wrote this--sounds more like Elie. Too mean and didn't mention any wedding gifts.
Cho Cho Cho your boat ...gently down the stream...
ERRONEOUS
I too clerked for a lowly magistrate judge. 'Twas indeed lowly (and anyone who denies this is a fool). But I'll say this: I was paid no less than a DJ's clerk and did far less work.
Thanks for the link to NY Social Diary ... I threw up in my mouth a little bit.
#8 is hysterical! and true.
Another factor against Ms. Park: she has a JD from Brooklyn Law, an authentic TTT (not UCLA = TTT b/c it isn't in the T14).
Are you kidding me? An Asian with a JD from a TTT!! That's completely unheard of!!
Agree Trinity could have done a LOT better
Glad to see that ATL is degrading into a cesspool like Autoadmit with all these racist and homophobic comments.
No, I am not Albert Cho. Unlike Mr. Cho, I probably won't make mid-level at my BigLaw firm. But I am sure that can be said of most people who commented on this article.
I really do enjoy Laurie's writing. This was great:
"How glamorous is this bride? She's an archaeologist, and her name is Trinity Olivia Jackman. Very National Treasure."
I call bullshit on the result. #2 achieves the coveted Stanford-Harvard-Yale-Columbia-Oxford pentafecta, plus they got married at the bride's family's "weekend house," so by the sacred laws of snobbiness they win. Also, old people suck, so no love for #3.
Trinity is hot!
Too ugly; didn't read
Looking at the times of day people post to this site, I have often wondered how much work is not being done while you people coo over gay couples getting married. One comment, here on a Sunday morning. To poster number 6, please note that while Penn State is a lesser law school, it is still not an Ivy. Oh, and Ivy is never spelled with an e.
Is LEWW dead? Laurie Lin Elie Mystal
