The husband of Nevada state Judge Elizabeth Halverson is in the Clark County jail this morning on attempted murder and battery charges, after a domestic violence incident last night at their home in Las Vegas.

Judge Halverson is reportedly hospitalized as a result of the attack, according to KLAS-TV, Channel 8. The 49-year-old Edward Halverson was arrested when police arrived just before 11 p.m.

I can respect people who don't have a sterling educational pedigree, but I am free to view it as a negative in terms of qualifications for office. Experience/inexperience is important, but the talk about it proceeds as though basic intelligence and education are irrelevant. Those topics are taboo, but they shouldn't be. Obama's education shows clearly that he is very smart and is adept at grasping complex issues. That may not be everything, but it is a refreshing change.
