Sarah Palin is the GOP equivalent of the kind of veep selection that Obama would have made if he was true to the original premise of his campaign (fresh, new, outsider, reformer ect.).

Instead, Obama went with a 35 year Washington political hack.

See here:

Palin (allegedly) suggested that her abusive ex-brother-in-law be fired? Has a pregnant 17 year old daughter?

So what.

The selection of Palin reminds one of the joke about Notre Dame after it hired Jerry Faust to coach the football team - that when Father Hesburgh retired as university president the school would replace him with the best high school principal it could find. Palin is a sad, amateurish joke. What's not clear is who pulled it.

We are all screwed.

On one hand, we have an inexperienced liberal extremist who wants to raise everyone's taxes and give money to lazy people and enlarge the government and its socialist programs.

On the other hand, we have an old guy too old to be entering the White House who thinks the Iraq war is a good idea and who made a very poor decision in VP. If he passess away on the job (probably = 50/50), then the country will be led by an inexperienced social conservative, which will doubly screw us.

Either way, we are screwed.

How many days into the public vetting are we? 5 days? 2 business days and we already have a pregnant teenage child, an ethics investigation, a connection to a group of Alaskans wanting to secede from the US, "I was for it before I was against it" political positions, and connections to crooked politicians and lobbyists. This is a field day for journalists, gossip/rumor-mongers, and Dems.

And, it's just getting started.

Look, either you are going with outsider, change or insider, experience.

Obama by definition is not the former. And, of course, Palin is at the bottom--not the top--of the ticket.

Moreover, unless McCain drops dead within 12 months of January 1, Plain will have enough WH experience (more that BHO has now) to assume the job.

PS to #4:

Sarah Palin has been mentioned, however tangentially, as a possible McCain veep pick for months.

With Obama's budget, yo can bet there was a 5" thick file on Obma's desk on Palin weeks ago. In other words, the DNC has taken their best shots already.

Dear #9:

This so called "ethics" investigation of Palin is old news.

The Daily Kos reported it 30+ days ago, and the Aslaka papers extensively since day-one.

In addition, if you think that opining that an abusive brother-in-law be fired (yea, abusive husbands are SOOOOO politically popular) or having a 17 year old pregnant daughter are issues that the American people will hold against her, well, talk to me after the general election.

There is a reason that Governor Palin has held onto a 90 (at its high)-80% (at its low) approval rating in Alaska since taking office: She is liked and likable.

18 - A few things. Any attacks focus on failures in abstinence-only sex ed and hypocrisy in running on a platform of "family values". The daughter has not (at least as far as I've read/heard) been directly attacked, and should be left out of this.

Second, whether or not minor children have been attacked in the past has no bearing on this story. A major part of social conservatives' agenda speaks to directly THIS PROBLEM. We both know that the Republicans would skewer the democrats if this came out on the other side.

Bill O'Reily on Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy:

"On the pinhead front, 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant. The sister of Britney says she is shocked. I bet.

Now most teens are pinheads in some ways. But here the blame falls primarily on the parents of the girl, who obviously have little control over her or even over Britney Spears."

I think everyone feels for the 17 year old girl. Bristol Palin's privacy has been sacrificed as the unfortunate collateral damage of her mom's political ambitions.

Also, didn't Newt Gingrich call a teenage Chelsea Clinton a dog?

http://www.latimes.com/news/la-na-biden28-2008aug28,0,7198358.story

Hint: People don’t care if a candidate’s daughter gets pregnant. They do care about payoffs for Senate votes.

“Democrat Tony Knowles, her opponent in the 2006 Alaska gubernatorial race, put together a detailed, 63-page research document — obtained by Politico — cataloging Palin’s strengths and weaknesses. And the Obama campaign, in particular, knows Palin well: A key Obama consultant, Anita Dunn, worked on Knowles’ campaign.”

”“We’re running against John McCain — the issues raised around his decision and the fact that he clearly bowed under to the right wing of his party and let them exercise veto power over his vice presidential pick,” Dunn said, suggesting the Obama campaign wouldn’t be recycling the 2006 Democratic criticism of Palin.”

Dear 33:

Really.

I am a political news junkie and have yet to perceive any public opinion holding Palin's daughter's pregnancy against the candidate. Frankly, to suggest otherwise is absurd.

Last, people are fed up with politics as usual. That is why Palin's insurgent anti-corruption resume has so much appeal, ditto McCain. But for this, Obama would be 20 points ahead in the polls, given the economy, the war, and the incumbent president's negatives.

I sure wish you were running Obama’s campaign....

37 Posted by guest | Permalink Tuesday, September 2, 2008 8:07 PM

The sure sign of a liberal hypocrite-sycophant: The willingness to feign social conservatives attitudes about a family pregnancy if it helps get his/her candidate elected.

Going on about this is a sign of desperation and sure to result in voter backlash--which is why the Obama campaign is staying well away from such nonsense.

It's a hell of a rink, but what corruption has she vanquished in building this insurgent resume?

I have to say, this Palin thing is hillarious. Not that a guy who could have his finger on the button would pick her out of nowhere - that's scary. What's hillarious is how much the Republicans' reaction reminds me of "The Emperor's New Clothes." It's so idiotic, that the Rs just assume there must be some grand genius behind it. Surely it couldn't be as idiotic as it sounds. They's so thirsty to believe this is not a quack pick, that they're spouting lines like "she was the Commander-in-Chief of the Alaska National Guard" with a totally straight face.

If you turn on C-Span right now, and close your eyes, you can hear the soft "baa, BAAAA" coming from the crowd.

I mean secession? Secession? Really? Secession? You can't make that up.

I'm a voter, my friends and family are voters and we dislike Palin for having a pregnant 17 year old (among other reasons). If my kids ever show up pregnant at 17 or having gotten someone pregnant, I will feel like a failure as a parent, so that's how I view Sarah Palin.

She knew this would happen, too. I hope a failed vice presidential bid was worth exposing her teenage daughter to the scorn and judgment of millions of people.

If true, why didn't Palin stand up and object to what many believe is hate speech? Now scurry along and read the juicy article. The right wing nuts certainly opened this door.....
