How difficult would it be to just send a mass email to those that passed and another to those that failed? Why even bother with the website? Or at least have enough bandwith on the website to handle the traffic. REDICULOUS.

What's up with the title of this post? "Bar Examine Results ..."? Maybe HLS should start offering a spelling and grammar course.

Um, no. There will be no list. Individuals who took the Illinois bar will get an email and will be able to log in and view their individual results. But there will be no LIST of who passed and who didn't.

FAIL post.

Do some people already know whether they passed, then? I thought all emails would be sent as a group, but it sounds as though messages really are being sent individually. My last name is toward the end of the alphabet, so if messages are being sent A-Z, I may not find out whether I passed until November.

DELAYED RELEASE OF EXAMINATION RESULTS

July 2008 bar examinees PLEASE watch your individual emailboxes rather than the website for news from the Board. Contrary to all expectations, the website was crashed by your attention this afternoon. We are working furiously with our host server to quadruple band width and post your results. If we do not succeed within the next few hours, we will attempt to post applicant numbers of passing examinees before midnight. Promised email notification of posted result letters will surely follow tomorrow. We are so sorry for this totally frustrating delay.

avatar
66 Posted by guest | Permalink Tuesday, September 30, 2008 8:46 PM

Yeah good point. Maybe they are supposed to email us the list of applicant numbers? IBABY is making this way more complicated than it needs to be. Come on, half the damn test was a scantron!

avatar
67 Posted by guest | Permalink Tuesday, September 30, 2008 8:47 PM

Yeah, it's completely contrary to all expectations that when you tell a group of neurotic, risk-averse law school graduates that their bar results will be posted on a website, those law school graduates might, en masse, decide to log on to that website repetitively, thus exceeding your bandwidth limitations.

While we're waiting, what exactly was the IL bar exam policy on cell phones and iPods? I thought they were totally prohibited in exam buildings, but during lunch I'd see test-takers walking around listening to iPods, and then making cell phone calls as they walked out after the exam.

I ask because I'm applying to be a hall monitor next year if the exam didn't go well.

Anyone who has been manging a website for more than five minutes would know the following:

a) don't post that results will be released until they're actually READY to be released;

b) have enough bandwith to handle your traffic;

c) telling people to wait for emails rather than check the site is a futile request; and

d) if the process you used last year worked well, why not keep that process.

Good job on the fuck-up iBaby, way to show that level of competence that we've come to expect from a governmental or pseudo-governmental agency (whatever the fuck you are).

I will say this: those now entering BigLaw got in at the right time (assuming you don't get laid off soon). Starting salaries took huge leaps just before the economy tanked, and firms are significantly cutting back the size of summer classes now. You got in just after the salary hikes and just before the "trimming."

Fingers crossed that a ton of people decide to go to IN instead...

Good luck again everyone!

136 Posted by guest | Permalink Tuesday, September 30, 2008 11:04 PM

I got an email from iBaby 2 weeks ago saying that 2 of my employers never got back to them (both profs I did paid research for in law school). I gave iBaby a fax number where they could reach the profs at. At 5:00 today I got an email from my account handler saying they still haven't heard back from the profs and that my character and fitness is still being held up because of this. I took this as a good sign, because if I failed the exam, they probably wouldn't be bothering with this right? :)

Then at 9:30 tonight I got another email saying that "important info and/or documentation" has been sent to me, and that I should log into iBaby.

When I log in there is a link to a .PDF letter under "Admission Docs" on the right hand side of my iBaby homepage. The letter says they need to hear from my profts about my employment before they can process my character and fitness app.

Nothing under "Admission Messages" or "System Messages"

My last name starts with S.

i haven't heard anything about test results.

my last name starts with n.

I still haven't heard anything on my application since I applied in mid-January--I'm hoping by now that this means I have no character and fitness hang-ups. I have a fairly clean past, but I definitely thought I'd have an inquiry or two, so part of me worries that I've missed a message or something.

avatar
142 Posted by guest | Permalink Tuesday, September 30, 2008 11:12 PM

Dear XXXX,

We are pleased to advise that you have passed the July 2008 Illinois bar examination.

Our records reflect that you have satisfied all of the requirements for admission to the bar of Illinois pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 704 and will be certified to the Illinois Supreme Court as eligible to take the oath of admission.

For information regarding the transfer of your Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) score to another jurisdiction, please visit the National Conference of Bar Examiners website at www.ncbex.org. For information and to download the transfer form, click the MBE link under the homepage heading labeled Multistate Tests.

The Supreme Court has fixed Thursday, November 6, 2008, as the date of the admission ceremonies. All certified candidates for admission to the bar must appear in open court to take the attorney's oath and receive their licenses. November 6 is the earliest date on which certified candidates may do so. Notices and instructions that include the location and time of your assigned ceremony will be mailed by the Office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court.

Very truly yours,

Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar

avatar
284 Posted by guest | Permalink Wednesday, October 1, 2008 6:49 AM

After a long, sleepless night, I got up, saw the email, logged-on, and passed. I had gotten way, way too worried, and was nearly convinced that I had failed. I am relieved and thrilled, to say the least.

That said, the spirit of something noted by an earlier poster bears repeating:

For those of you who received bad news today - hang in there. Remember that most people who fail do so by just a couple of points, which means selecting the wrong multiple choice answer just a few times too many. It's pretty absurd. If you failed, try not to get caught up in the statistics. You graduated from law school, you'll study again (PMBR my friend, PMBR), and in April, before true spring has even arrived to this frigid state, you will be notified that you passed.

I'm still waiting for my results (another state). Out of curiosity, to all those who passed: who among you thought the MBE was hard as hell and guessed on a lot of the questions?

avatar

299: yep. i guessed far more on the MBE than i ever did in practice question sets.

I just read a news release from IBABY saying that they accidentally sent everyone a "pass" letter, even those that failed. I guess we started celebrating too soon.

Kidding (couldn't resist). Congrats to all that passed and better luck next time to those that failed--it's a b.s. test anyway.

299- I would call BS on anyone that would say they 'knew' more than 1/3rd of the MBE.. Im glad im on the good side of the lucky guesses, but its still pretty crappy so many people are on the other side. Of course with this economy, I could use the 9 month head start on some of them job wise...

295: You have to wait until the ARDC posts everyone's names. Then, anyone who took the bar in July but whose name isn't on the ARDC webpage=unfortunate soul who failed.

Wow. Reading this thread makes me even more glad I was at the Sox game avoiding this stress. Anywho, I passed but still have no letter in my inbox. Good thing I didn't trust the "ibaby team," Congrats to passers and good luck to the Feb takers :)

Side note: That MBE was way rough. I had about 20/200 that i didn't even have time to read. I'd say I was confident on about 5 total. Does anyone know if we'll get to review the results or know our score?

avatar
313 Posted by guest | Permalink Tuesday, October 7, 2008 5:25 PM

From what I understand you never see your MBE score in IL, if want to pass into DC you need at 133, Minnesota a 145, but you just fill out some form and the NCBE tells you if you qualify for those, not your actual score... some states release a number, some give you specefics, but in IL you just get P or F. MBE wasn't any harder than practice PMBR/Barbri.... just likely felt that way to you because it actually meant something on the day of the bar.

avatar
314 Posted by guest | Permalink Wednesday, October 8, 2008 12:23 PM

STOP COMPLAINING about getting your bar results on October 2 while us 12,000 people over here in NY are not getting ours until around NOVEMBER 15. I sympathize with your website crashing issues, but seriously, we have to wait another MONTH at least. Ugh.

313: I got my score from NCBE, not just a note telling me whether I qualified for D.C., etc.

By the way, I am 299 from above, and I ended up doing way better on the MBE than I thought I was going to (139 raw somehow).

317: This is 299/316. Yup, I took it in July 2008 in Delaware. I just went to the NCBE website and filled out an online request form. The score was in my mailbox within 4-5 days.

I am 313 from before... as I previously said, while SOME STATES (DE incluced obviously) allow the NCBE to release your score, Illinois does NOT allow this, so if you took in ILLINOIS you will not get a number.
